Council on Aging Meeting – May 19, 2026

Tewksbury Senior Center welcomes the new Activities Coordinator, along with new programs and exciting trips!

Having established a quorum, the meeting was called to order by Chairperson Donna Bell. The meeting minutes of April 21, 2026, were reviewed and approved. Treasurer Jeff Dufour, after consultation with Director Jan Conole, presented the financials, which were also approved by the council members.

Conole proceeded to give her report on happenings and events taking place at the Center. State grant funds will be used to replace several failing windows in the building. The cement walkways damaged over the winter will also be repaired.

She highlighted the Volunteer Luncheon held on May 1, where more than 100 volunteers were recognized. She also expressed her gratitude to the staff who go “above and beyond” every day in supporting the seniors and events at the center.

Jennifer DiFranco was announced as the newly hired Activities Coordinator. Jennifer is a longtime Tewksbury resident who “has been involved in many areas of the community and brings strong local connections” to the center. She has already planned an exciting bus trip to Hampton Beach to see the elaborate sandcastles, followed by lunch at the Seaglass Restaurant. The cost is $75, and reservations for this trip may be made at the reception desk Monday through Friday.

The Friendly Visitor program has already begun visiting homebound or isolated seniors in their homes. The program helps older adults stay connected to the Senior Center, as well as engaged in the community. Anyone who knows someone who might benefit from this program is encouraged to contact Yeccel at the center.

On Thursday, June 4, the Wellness Walk & Talk group will begin. This 12-week series will explore different health topics, including cardiovascular health, stress management, staying active, and much more.

The annual Pride event will take place on June 26. It is expected to be a fun evening of singing, dancing, and bingo in celebration of Pride Month. The event will run from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Admission is $5 per person, and light refreshments will be served.

The next meeting is scheduled for June 16 in the conference room at the center.

Be sure to check out the many other events and programs held weekly at the center.
