Council on Aging Meeting November 19, 2024

Lots to see and do at the Senior Center in December.

Chairperson Donna Bell called the November 19th meeting to order at 3:07pm. Members in attendance were Joan Unger, Tracy Skahan, Kathleen Walsh, Sandy Creamer, Jeff Dufour, Michael Mc Dermott, Virginia Desmond and Joanne Aldrich was on the phone. Newly appointed member, Robert Herrick notified the Chair he was unable to attend due to illness.

The minutes of the meeting on October 15, 2024, were tabled until the next scheduled meeting on a vote of 9-0. The financial report was then discussed and subsequently approved 9-0 on a voice vote.

December Calendar of Events was presented by the Director, Jan Conole. It’s going to be a very busy month. GAC Christmas Party is on Friday 12/6 (sold out), Community Market returns on Thursday 12/12, Swingin’ Seniors Christmas concert on Friday 12/20. Intake for the Boutique is on Monday 12/2. Silvertones Dance is on Friday 12/20. Friends of the Elderly Christmas Party is on Saturday 12/14 and the center has offered to provide bus transportation for those who do not want to drive at night. Please contact the Center for details on how to arrange for a pickup. Be sure to check the calendar in the Newsletter coming out December 1, for the times of these and other great happenings.

Director Conole then gave her report highlighting events and outreach programs. The GAC and TMHS girls’ basketball team will sponsor a Gingerbread House decorating event on December 16 and again at the Memory Cafe for residents and caregivers on December 18. Jan reports the “transportation program has grown exponentially since obtaining the new minivan. All three vans are out transporting people each day.” Additionally, the LRTA received a grant which will allow for free fares from December 1, 2024, thru September 30, 2025.

COA members were sent an invitation for a Retirement Brunch Celebration, honoring Richard Montuori, Town Manager, for his 14 years of service and dedication to the Town of Tewksbury.

Lastly, Jan reminded everyone to stay tuned for some new and exciting events happening in the New Year 2025.

The next meeting of the COA will be in January 2025.
