Beloved Choir Announces Farewell Performance

Retirement of longtime director leaves void; residents invited to share final event

The Tewksbury Interfaith Choir will present its annual Christmas concert on Sunday, Dec. 10. The performance will be at St. Williams Church, 1351 Main St., at 7:00 p.m. This will likely be the last appearance of the group after 45 years of sharing music with families, friends and neighbors.

Choir Director Norm Demarais, who has led the ensemble since the 1979 Christmas concert, is retiring, and member Barbara Flynn says there are only four original members left. To produce the spring show, the choir would need both a new director and additional members.

In its history, the choir has raised money for many charities, provided music for organizations including the Little Sisters of the Poor, and even toured England where they led an interfaith service at Tewkesbury Abbey and performed a midday concert in Westminster Abbey. Closer to home, the group has supplied music for various services in local churches.

As has always been the case, the Christmas concert is free, and the program will reflect many audience favorites. All residents are invited to attend, and anyone who may wish to act as director or join may contact Flynn at 978-726-6545.
