Lots to see, do, and learn this August and September at the Senior Center.
Having a quorum present, Chairperson Donna Bell called the August 6 meeting to order at 3pm. Donna welcomed guests Paul Galinis and Mark Kratman.
The next order of business was to approve the minutes from the June 18, 2024 meeting. It was determined that a recorded vote in those minutes was unnecessary. A motion to remove the vote was approved, and the amended minutes were subsequently approved by the council. The financials for the first month of the new fiscal year were also discussed and approved as presented.
September is Falls Prevention Awareness Month. The goal is to raise awareness about the dangers of falling and how to prevent them. On Wednesday, September 18, Director Jan Conole has scheduled a workshop titled Balance & Breath & a Brown Bag Lunch. Come learn how having good balance can help prevent falls and serious injuries. This workshop is sponsored by the Life Care Centers of Merrimack Valley.
Jan also reports that Tewksbury has received a grant from the Massachusetts Council on Aging. With this grant, she will be able to provide several Memory Cafes over the next year. Diane will be working on these events, and if anyone has suggestions for activities that caregivers and their loved ones might enjoy, please see Jan to discuss them.
Mark your calendars for the DJ Dance & Lunch on August 26 from 11:30am – 2pm. Tickets must be purchased by Monday the 19th. Additionally, the LCR (Left-Center-Right) game is scheduled for Friday, August 16, 2024. Please reserve your seat before the 14th.
There will be a posting for two van driver positions: one to replace a driver who is leaving and one additional driver for the new minivan coming soon. This new minivan will accommodate individuals with wheelchairs and their companions, providing assistance for travel to medical appointments.
