Autism Sibling Project, Homework Surveys Live Now, Plus 3 More Things To Know Today

Please help Maddie with her Bronze award!

Here are five things to know today in Tewksbury.

1. Autism Sibling Project: Local Troop 82424 Girl Scout Madeline Modica, above, with her brother Noah, is collecting stories of what it is like to have a sibling with Autism.

“I have a sibling with Autism and sometimes it can feel lonely, so my goal is to build awareness of what it is like so other kids know they are not alone,” said Modica. “My goal is to collect 10 stories, and I would be more than happy to get more stories than that to share.”

Modica will share the stories she collects in a photo display at the Tewksbury Public Library and plans to create a book. If you have a sibling with Autism and are open to sharing thoughts and stories, please fill out the questionnaire at this link.

2. Wynn Multicultural Night: Tomorrow — Friday, April 5 — from 5:00 – 7:30 p.m. the Wynn community will highlight different cultures and provide representation for the diversity of our schools. There will be food, heritage displays, and performances. The event is open to everyone and is sponsored by the Student Alliance for Equality (SAFE) Club.

Plus: School Committee Chair Bridget Garabedian reminds the community that the April 12 deadline is approaching to nominate an outstanding educator or an individual, a group, or a company/organization who has had a significant impact on the Tewksbury Public Schools. Anyone can make a nomination! Learn more.

3. Homework Policy Feedback Survey: The Tewksbury Public Schools are looking for feedback from parents (especially) and students in grades 5 – 12 on the current homework policy, and what changes might be made. Please share your thoughts and suggestions by April 12. All responses will remain confidential and will be used to inform future revisions. The survey for parents is here, while students can share their thoughts here.

4. School’s Out Early on Eclipse Day. All Tewksbury schools will release students an hour early on Monday, April 8. The eclipse is expected to start at 2:00 p.m., with 95% coverage projected for just before 3:30 p.m. The Tewksbury Public Library is hosting a picnic on the back lawn. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs and snacks to enjoy during the event, and free eclipse glasses will be available while supplies last.

And finally …

5. Sharps Disposal Program Launches: Residents who need to dispose of any kind of sharp, including small needles that retract after use, like epi-pens, can now find special containers at Town Hall and the Senior Center. Note that the items must be sealed in a puncture-resistant container. Loose sharps or those in bags or glass containers won’t be accepted. Disposal is free to residents. Here’s more info.
