Assistant Superintendent to Leave District

In an email to staff and families today Superintendent Brenda Regan shared that Assistant Superintendent Lori McDermott will be leaving the district to take a position as Assistant Superintendent, Curriculum and Instruction in Billerica Public Schools for next school year 2024-2025, beginning on July 1, 2024. Billerica has had an Interim Assistant Superintendent since July 2023.

McDermott started in Tewksbury on July 1, 2022, and has been with the district for 1 1/2 school years to date. You can see our reporting on her hire here.

Per the email from Regan the next steps will be:

  • The Central Office will post this anticipated opening today. 
  • The posting will be open from February 21st through March 6th.
  • In order to get the most preferred and experienced candidates we will need to have an aggressive timeline. 
  • I will be forming an interview team with representatives from the District and school leadership teams, faculty and staff representatives, and parent representatives.
    • Parents and staff: Please reach out to your building principal if you are interested in serving on the interview team.
  • Interviews will be scheduled for mid-March after school hours and possibly weekends (dates and times to be determined).
  • The goal is to have a final candidate identified by March 22nd.
