There’s A Busy, Blooming Earth Week Ahead In Tewksbury

Got questions on the Town Meeting warrant you received in the mail? The Finance Committee has answers tonight

The Tewksbury Memorial High School Theater Company’s spring musical, The Addams Family School Edition, debuts this week. Tickets are $10 and available now. There are showings on April 25 and April 26 at 7 p.m. and two shows on April 27, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

National Honor Society members Alan Dang, Hazel Garabedian, Alejandra Segura Polanco, Rania Elouahi, Emily Laperriere and Allison Shpritzer, above, helped out at the Spring Fling spaghetti supper this weekend at the Senior Center.

This coming weekend is also the Art in Bloom celebration at the Library, beginning Friday at 10 a.m. and running through Sunday. Tewksbury Garden Club members have created original floral interpretations of books and artwork provided by local artists, including Tewksbury Memorial High School students, the Tewksbury Piecemakers Quilting Guild, the Tewksbury Historical Society and the Tewksbury Public Library. This event is free and no registration is required, just drop by.

Drivers take note that the town’s contractor, EJ Paving, will be working on the intersection of Whipple Road and Pleasant Street, and Whipple Road from Pond Street to Pine Street starting today between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Detours will be set up as needed. Please seek alternate routes or expect delays if you’re traveling in the area. Learn more here.

Looking ahead:
Town Cleanup Day & Recycling event is May 4.
You can sign up for a section of town, or just drop by Town Hall from 9 a.m. to noon to pick up supplies. You can also recycle tires, electronics and clothing; shred documents; and donate pet supplies and items for the Community Pantry. Learn more.

Community Indoor Yard Sale is also May 4, sponsored by the Friends of the Elderly. Stop in and browse for some treasures. Lunch is available for purchase. Want a table? Call the Senior Center at 978-640-4480. Learn more

Tewksbury Youth Lacrosse “Homecoming” is May 5 at the Livingston Street lacrosse fields, and all teams will play home as hosts. There will be food trucks and a “Fastest Shoot” competition where kids can see how fast they can throw, as measured with a radar gun. The community is welcome. 

Town Meeting is May 6 and May 8 at TMHS. There are important articles being considered both evenings. You can attend tonight’s Finance Committee meeting to hear details, and the Carnation will cover various articles and Town Meeting FAQs all next week.

The annual Power of Flowers Project Bloom Festival is Saturday, May 11, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Grow Greenhouses. A wide variety of annuals, perennials, locally created artisan goods, garden novelty items and other unique gifts will be sold. Learn more.

Finance Committee

The Finance Committee will hold a public hearing on the warrants for Town Meeting. If you have questions on any article, this is a good opportunity to get answers as Town Manager Richard Montuori will be there along with other town staff. Agenda

Comedian Jerry Caruso Presents “Laughter Is The Best Medicine”

After exiting executive session, the Select Board will consider a victualler license for Meadowlands Ice Cream, which is under new ownership. The board will also do its own review of the May Town Meeting warrants and discuss the TPS long-range space planning committee. Agenda

Shawsheen Tech School Committee

1950’s Sock Hop with Esmerelda Clump

Enjoy an evening of music, trivia, dancing and old-fashioned fun at Esmerelda’s Sock-Hop. Learn the cha-cha and the stroll with Tewksbury’s Carol Anne Robitaille, aka Esmerelda Clump, who has spent most of her life entertaining, choreographing, and directing shows. She is now retired and is a well-known karaoke singer in the area who regularly entertains at local nursing homes. Door and trivia prizes.

Thursday, April 25

TPD Senior Safety Course

Older Americans are often on the lookout for physical attacks and burglary, but they may not be as alert to frauds and con games — in reality, the greatest crime threat to seniors’ well being and trust, according to the Tewksbury Police Department, which will present programming at the Senior Center with tips to stay safe. “Ask Alex!” Planner’s Spring Office Hours
When: 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

The goal of these office hours is to help educate residents on the planning process, how zoning works, and timely subjects such as MBTA Communities in an informal, conversational setting. Residents are encouraged to ask general and project-specific questions. Rt. 133 Cannabis Meeting

Route 133 Cannabis, LLC will hold a community outreach meeting for a proposed retail marijuana establishment to be located at 1625 Andover St. There will be an opportunity for the public to ask questions. Residents may recall that applicants Dean Graffeo and consultant Caitlyn Samson pulled their application during the last round of license hearings by the Select Board because of a pending lawsuit. Graffeo says his attorney is in the process of resolving that, and this meeting is necessary to keep the application active.

Friday, April 26

Arbor Day Celebration

Did you know that Tewksbury is marking its second year of Tree City status from the Arbor Day Foundation? To recognize that, the Garden Club is once again holding a program with the third-grade students at the Center School for Arbor Day. Last year, three native trees were planted. 

Art in Bloom

Celebrate spring as the library transforms into a vibrant landscape of flowers and greenery. Arbor Day Tree Planting

The Arbor Day celebration continues with a ceremonial tree planting on the back lawn of the Tewksbury Public Library. Town Meeting allocated CPA funding to add a stage and path on that lawn, and now trees will add to the park-like feel. 

Weekend

National Drug Take-Back Day
When: Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Where: Tewksbury Police Department

Prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding your home of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs. Bring your medications for disposal to TPD headquarters at 918 Main St. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked. Residents are asked to remove pills from prescription bottles and seal them in a plastic “Ziploc” type bag before arriving at headquarters. Liquid products, such as cough syrup, should remain sealed in their original containers. Please ensure the cap is tightly sealed to prevent leakage. NO SHARPS. Here’s how to dispose of sharps.
