Ferdinand Will Focus On Microblading, Body Art Regs, Fees

Candidate for three-year Board of Health seat opposes cap on tobacco licenses

George Ferdinand is seeking one of two open seats on the Tewksbury Board of Health. You can hear from George and the other candidates on Thursday night at the Crier & Carnation Candidates Forum.

Carnation: Why do you want to serve on the Board of Health?

George Ferdinand: In last and this year’s election the BOH will have lost over 20 years of experience. As a former member I’m running as part of the bridge to a board with the majority of new members that have different backgrounds and skills to serve the town.

TC: Give us a brief bio: Where you grew up, family, interests.

GF: Roslindale as a kid. Wilmington as a teenager. Patty is in the Medical Profession. Town, City, County, State, Region and Federal Public Policy. Celtics, Bruins and Horseracing

TC: What is your education?

GF: Wilmington HS Grad 1980. Attended Northeastern & Wayne State University

TC: What is your “day job,” and how do your past or current professional experiences prepare you for service on the BoH?

GF: PT Van Driver for the COA. 37 years in the Auto Industry had every elected and appointed position in a UAW Local Union except VP and Pres

TC: If elected, what do you hope to accomplish in the next three years? What is your platform? (feel free to include a link to your website or Facebook page)

GF: work together with the other members like I did from 2016-2019.
Update the Body Art Regulation
Address Microblading
Review the Fee schedule by economic trends
Oppose the Cap on Tobacco Licenses

TC: What are the top three health-related issues you see in town, and how will you address them?

GF: The BOH is a Regulatory Board but the 3 I see are Mental Health, Drug Abuse and Compliance from the Food Establishments. The Department and the Board address the 3rd well. As far as the first two the non-profit arm of the board Tewksbury Cares is the way to go to effect them.

TC: Do you support the proposal to assign letter grades to Tewksbury restaurants? Why or why not?

GF:  I would have to review the details but if they are like the Boston or New York rating system I would be leaning to support.

TC: What else would you like to say to residents to encourage them to vote for you?

GF: As many know I attend the Annual and Fall Town Meetings, vote in every election, served on 2 town committees and elected a former BOH member. We the citizens of the Commonwealth are on the precipice of overeaching regulations that if not resisted and opposed only offer us to become wards of the state. My motto is “the less regulations the better.” If you agree, vote George Ferdinand for the BOH on Saturday April 6th.
