Highlights from the Tewksbury Housing Authority Meeting

THA residents will have their own Farmers Market come summer

The Housing Authority met on Tuesday, March 11, with a quorum of three members present.

The minutes of the February 20, 2024 meeting were read and approved. Invoices for February were discussed and approved for payment.

Notices from the Executive Office of Housing & Livable Communities were discussed:

2024-4 Effective March 4, 2024, EOHLC has made updates to the Capital Project Implementation Processes. Local Housing Authorities will be allowed to manage projects up to $25,000 in construction costs. This is an increase from $10,000. Design review projects will also have increases depending on the size of the projects.

“These changes will streamline capital projects and lead to overall shorter timelines from planning to construction” wrote Fatima Razzaq, Director, Bureau of Housing Development and Construction.

2024-5 EOHLC has announced that Massachusetts Housing Partnership (MHP) will expand its technical assistance to Local Housing Authorities (LHAs) interested in opening up surplus land for development. (It should be noted that the Tewksbury Housing Authority has no surplus land on its books.)

Executive Director Melissa Maniscalco advised the THA of the five current vacancies on Saunders Circle, Carnation Drive and Delaney Drive. She has already contacted applicants and expects these units will be occupied by the first of April.

The Merrimack Valley Food Bank reached out to the THA about setting up an outdoor Farmers Market at Carnation Drive. This market will be open to all THA residents — even in the rain, as the community center at Carnation Drive can accommodate this exciting new benefit. Residents can look forward to having delicious fresh vegetables May thru November.

As this was a light agenda, motion for adjournment was called at 4:20 p.m. The next meeting will be on April 8, 2024 at the Saunders Circle Community Building.
