Conservation Commission Hosts ‘Pull Party’ to Help Combat Invasives at Long Pond July 12th

Commission members and Town staff lead water chestnut removal effort at Long Pond.

The Tewksbury Conservation Commission is teaming up with Town staff to lead a manual effort for water chestnut removal at Long Pond to support the long-term maintenance of the pond. The “Pull Party” will take place on Saturday, July 12 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Long Pond, access at the Whipple Road parking area across from 2 Ferncroft Road.

The goal of this session is to support the long-term maintenance of Long Pond through the manual removal of water chestnut, a prevalent invasive species. This is part of the Town’s overall management plan which includes water monitoring, testing, and treatment. The Conservation Commission will do a brief introduction of the invasive removal activity before commencing with the effort. Participants must bring their own kayaks, paddles, and life vests. Buckets will be provided for water chestnut collection and disposal.
