Beyond the Call — Together We Shine
On Wednesday, May 13, 2026, Tewksbury Hospital proudly hosted its inaugural Beyond the Call: Together We Shine Gala at the Tewksbury-Wilmington Elks, bringing together approximately 180 guests for an evening dedicated to recognition, appreciation, and celebration.
The evening featured the presentation of seven TOMMY Awards — representing Teamwork-Outreach-Mindfulness-Motivation, and You — along with honors for Employee of the Year, Team of the Year and Community Partnership Award.
Owen Mercer, Nurse Manager -” has created a safer, stronger and compassionate care environment for everyone around them.”
Zelia Ramos, Environmental Services — “embodies dedication, compassion and heart in everything she does.”
Nicholas Wheeler, Pharmacist — “builds trust and strengthens teamwork every single day.”
Aeron Baita RN — “is the essence of nursing at its best: empathy, creativity and commitment.”
Kara Keegan, LICSW — “someone who embodies dedication, compassion, and unwavering commitment.”
Jamie Armstrong, LICSW — “embodies the best of social work: advocacy, compassion, humor and humanity.”
Michael Stander, Chief of Public Safety — “someone who embodies what it means to see the whole person.”
The Community Partnership Award was presented to the Tewksbury Police Department — “an agency that has stood with us through challenge, change and growth.”
The Team of the Year Award honored the Environmental Services Department — “the quiet force that keeps our environment safe, clean, welcoming and functioning.”
The Employee of the Year Award honored Dr. Richard Ma, Chief Medical Officer — “whose dedication, empathy and humanity uplift our entire hospital community.”
In recognition of public service and commitment to the Commonwealth, Years of Service pins were also distributed to employees celebrating 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, and 50 years of dedicated state service.
The ceremony was led by co-emcees Holly Saurman and Brian Semons-Madore, with keynote remarks delivered by Tewksbury Hospital Board of trustee, JoMarie Buckley. Closing remarks were provided by Tewksbury Hospital CEO Amy Dumont, who reflected on the importance of honoring the individuals whose compassion and commitment continue to strengthen the hospital community.
The Beyond the Call: Together We Shine Gala was created to celebrate the invaluable contributions of Tewksbury Hospital staff while strengthening a shared culture of appreciation, compassion, and community service. Following the success of the inaugural event, the committee looks forward to continuing the GALA as an annual tradition for years to come.
