Town Election This Upcoming Saturday: Absentee Ballots & Vote By Mail Available

The deadline to submit a Vote By Mail application is tomorrow, March 31st, by 5 PM. The last day to fill out the Absentee Ballot Application and vote in person at the Town Clerk’s Office is Friday, April 4th, by 12 PM. Ballots must be returned by mail, in person, or via the secure drop box at Town Hall by 8 PM on Election Day.

As the election approaches this Saturday, remember that Absentee Ballots and Vote By Mail ballots are available. Be sure to stay aware of the approaching deadlines. Letters to the Editor and endorsements can be reviewed under the Tewksbury Carnation’s “Tewksbury Votes” tab or by searching “Tewksbury Votes 2025.”

The Sample Ballot is now available, listing all candidates running for office.

  • Select Board: Incumbent Mark Kratman, along with Lindsey Dunlevy Tosto, Ryan Lloyd, and Richard Russo.
  • Planning Board: Incumbents James Duffy and Nicholas Lizotte, along with Karen DiFruscia.
  • School Committee: Incumbent Kayla Biagioni-Smith and James Cutelis.
  • Board of Library Trustees: Incumbent Julie Naughton and Jonah McCreary.
  • Board of Health: Incumbents Susan Amato and Melissa Braga, along with Pamela LeFave.
  • Housing Authority: John Lombardo.
  • Shawsheen Valley Technical High School Committee: Incumbent Patricia Meuse.

ABSENTEE BALLOTS AVAILABLE

Tewksbury Town Clerk, Denise Graffeo, would like to notify voters that Absentee Ballots are now available at the Town Clerk’s Office for the Saturday, April 5, 2025 Annual Town Election. The Town Clerk’s Office is open Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Tuesday 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM and Friday 7:30 AM to 12:30 PM.

To qualify for an absentee ballot, you must:

  • Be away from your city/town on Election Day; or
  • Have a disability that keeps you from voting at your polling place; or
  • Have a religious belief that prevents you from voting at your polling place on Election Day

Applying for a Ballot – Applications are available for download below, but any written request is acceptable if it has your signature on it. For absentee ballots, a family member may also make the request on your behalf.

Applications can be submitted by mail, email, or fax. If you are emailing your application, you may either scan or take a photo of your signed application and email it to townclerk@tewksbury-ma.gov Typed signatures are not acceptable.

If you need an application mailed to you, you may contact the Town Clerk’s Office by phone at 978-640-4355 or email townclerk@tewksbury-ma.gov . Alternatively, you may write a letter requesting your ballot. Be sure to include your name, your address, the place you would like the ballot mailed, and your signature.

Absentee Voting By Mail – Any mail-in ballot must be requested in writing by 5 p.m. on Monday, March 31st.

Absentee Voting in Person – The final day to fill out the Absentee Ballot Application and vote at the same time at the Town Clerk’s Office is no later than Friday, April 4, 2025 at 12pm Noon.

Emergency Absentee Ballots – If you have been admitted to a healthcare facility within 1 week of the election, you may use the absentee ballot application to designate someone of your choice to deliver a ballot to you. The person you designate to deliver your ballot will need to bring the signed application to the Town Clerk’s Office, pick up your absentee ballot, bring it to you, and return it for you by the close of polls on Election Day. Emergency ballots may be requested up until the close of polls.

Returning your Ballot – Ballots may be returned by mail, in person, or in the secure ballot drop box at the main entrance to Town Hall no later than 8:00 PM on Election Day. Absentee ballots must be returned to the Town Clerk’s Office, not to the precinct on Election Day. If you need further assistance, please call the Town Clerk’s Office at 978-640-4355.

VOTE BY MAIL

All registered voters qualify to vote by mail in the April 5, 2025 Annual Town Election. These ballots are known as “Vote by Mail” ballots and can be requested using the Vote by Mail Application.

Application Deadlines
Any mail-in ballot must be requested in writing by 5 p.m. on Monday, March 31st

Applying for your Ballot
To request your Vote by Mail ballot, you will need to submit a Vote by Mail application to:

  • By mail: Town Clerk, 1009 Main Street, Tewksbury, MA 01876
  • By email: townclerk@tewksbury-ma.gov
  • By fax: 978-851-8610

Vote by Mail applications can be downloaded or printed here. Further, any written request with your signature is an acceptable application. You can simply write a signed letter to apply for your ballot.

Applications must include a signature that can be compared to your hand-written signature. Electronic signatures, scanned applications, and photos of applications are acceptable.

Typed signatures on applications cannot be accepted, unless you are a voter who requires accommodations due to physical disability. If you are unable to sign your application or mark your ballot by hand due to a disability, visit our page about voting with disabilities for information on requesting an accommodation.

Military & Overseas Voters
If you are a U.S citizen residing out of the country or on active military duty, you may use the Federal Post Card Application or the Massachusetts Absentee Ballot Application to request your ballot. More information is available on our Voting for Military & Overseas Citizens page.

Apply as early as possible, especially if your ballot will need to be mailed out of town. The
U.S. Postal Service recommends allowing up to 7 days for mail delivery.

Returning your Ballot
There are three ways to return voted ballots:

  1. Drop ballots off in the DROP BOX at the Main Entrance of Town Hall 24-7 until 8 p.m. on Election Day
  2. IN PERSON at the Town Clerk’s Office Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Tuesday 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM and Friday 7:30 AM to 12:30 PM
  3. BY MAIL (Please note that US Postal delivery services are not consistent and can range from 3 to 11 days. We recommend voters return their ballots in person or in the drop box outside of the town offices by 8PM on Election Day to ensure it arrives back to us in time to count.)
    Ballots cannot be dropped off at a polling place on Election Day. Ballots must reach the Town Clerk’s Office by the close of polls on Election Day to be counted.
