Local fitness pro demonstrates healthy habits, shares concept of fueling up
It was chicken stir-fry day at Tewksbury’s Center Elementary School Thursday, and along with their healthy lunches, all students got a demonstration of easy exercises they can do without any special equipment courtesy of Kelly Boyle, owner of Boyle’s Fitness Factory on Washington St. in Tewksbury.
“You have to charge your batteries!” said Boyle. “If I eat 17 donuts for breakfast, pretty soon I’m not going to feel so great.”
She explained that not all calories are created equal — if they choose pizza, take some broccoli too.
Boyle, who has owned her gym in town for 15 years, was recruited by her sister, who is on the CES PAC and has four children in Tewksbury schools.
“She volunteered me,” said Boyle, but it’s clear she enjoys engaging with kids.
Some young athletes who train at the Fitness Factory demonstrated for their peers how it’s easy to do squats, dips and other exercises without any special equipment.
“You can exercise right where you are,” she said.
Boyle, a Tewksbury native and star multisport athlete who is a member of the TMHS Hall of Fame, offers conditioning and training to athletes and teams, including the pre- and off-season conditioning.
CES principal Jay Harding said he appreciates Boyle coming in to help recognize Fitness Month. CES students have also recently enjoyed a jazz band and a variety of contests to recognize Read Across America Month.
“We had a giant stuffed egg, and the student who guessed the right number of items won some books,” said Harding.
Broccoli was on the menu today, along with chicken stir fry, a mixed veg option and brown rice.
Students had a choice of apples, mango slices or applesauce.
Children also received red bracelets to remind them to make healthy choices, said Amy Crowley.
The CES Food Service team thanked Boyle for visiting.
Thank you to Amy Crowley for the photo assistance!
