Briefs: Moulton Secures $850,000 for Livingston St. Sidewalks, Finegold Joins Unanimous Vote

What are our state and federal reps up to?

Congressman Seth Moulton recently announced funding for a variety of programs in his district, which includes Tewksbury.

“I’m happy to report that Congress (finally) passed a number of key government funding bills, which means that over $13 million in federal funding that I secured in those bills will soon arrive to support 15 different projects across the North Shore,” said Moulton.

You can see the full list here. Tewksbury will receive $850,000 for the Livingston Street Transportation Improvement Project, which will make the area more friendly to pedestrians and bicycles. The scope includes 4,100-feet of sidewalk along Livingston Street between East St. and Roy Way, which will connect existing sidewalks on East Street and Livingston St. and help residents of the Tewksbury Housing Authority units more safely walk to East St.

Moulton is also looking for high-school and college students interested in politics to join his team as Summer Fellows. Fellows will participate in online seminars through the DCCC, while also organizing on-the-ground with the campaign in MA06. Learn more and submit applications here.

Finegold Votes to Criminalize ‘Revenge Porn’
Last night, the Massachusetts Senate unanimously passed An Act to prevent abuse and exploitation. This bipartisan legislation would criminalize the sharing of sexually explicit images or videos without an individual’s consent and implement a comprehensive educational diversion program designed for adolescents on the consequences of posting indecent visual depictions online.

If passed, it would make Massachusetts the 49th state to impose legal recourse for victims of revenge porn, leaving only South Carolina.

“Our digital reality is rapidly evolving, and I am proud to support this legislation that will help protect individuals from harm caused by the dissemination of illegal and inappropriate images online,” said State Senator Barry R. Finegold, who represents Tewksbury. “It is critical that we recognize the growing number of ways individuals can be abused and coerced through online platforms, which is why I am grateful for the educational component that will ensure our youth understand the gravity of these actions from an early age.”

The bill, S.2703, increases the allowable fine for unlawful distribution of indecent images and reins in coercive control of abusers. A version of the legislation was passed unanimously by the Mass. House of Representatives earlier this year. The two bodies now must iron out differences before the bill can move to Gov. Maura Healey’s desk. More information on S.2703 can be found here.

Besides Tewksbury, Finegold represents Andover, Amesbury, Haverhill, Merrimac, North Andover and Wilmington. He chairs the Joint Committee on Economic Development and Emerging Technologies.
