Soldier On Fundraiser Sunday, Tickets and Lane Sponsorship Available

Golfers, take note of these foursome raffles …

If you’ve driven by the Gordon H. Mansfield Veterans Community Housing Project on Main St. and wondered how you can help, consider attending Sunday’s second annual Soldier On fundraiser at Wamesit Lanes, with proceeds going to help end veteran homelessness.

Hosted by Soldier On and Tewksbury Home Build, the event kicks off at 6 p.m. and features raffle and silent auction items as well as entertainment.

“Soldier On is a great organization, and we stand behind everything they are trying to do,” said Wamesit Lanes’ Donny MacLaren Jr. “They have a great housing project in our own back yard here in Tewksbury, and we are excited to continue the support. We look forward to hosting their event again and encourage everyone to help donate and show their support for veterans!”

There is one private lane sponsorship left as of this morning, and plenty of tickets for $40. Residents can also make a donation.

Bruce Panilaitis, president of of Tewksbury Home Build, which secured the land and is backing the project, thanked Wamesit Lanes for hosting and said progress is being made on the build.

“I know they’re glad to rise above the water and get some walls up,” said Panilaitis.

While construction costs are not rising as quickly as they were, they’re also not going down, and issues with the site due to its proximity to wetlands increased the prep work needed — as many residents noted as they drove by — so this fundraiser is critical.

The property, located at 1660 Main St., will offer 21 units of permanent supportive housing to at-risk veterans. Learn more.

“Soldier On is honored to be hosting the 2nd Annual Comedy Night Fundraiser at Wamesit Lanes to support the Gordon H. Mansfield Veterans Community,” said Bruce Buckley, CEO & President of Soldier On. “The residents of Tewksbury have always stepped up to support veterans. We look forward to a great turnout on Sunday for an evening of laughs along with bowling. There will be a silent auction and chance raffle with some great prizes. All proceeds raised throughout the night will go directly to the project.”

Entertainment will be by comedian Dave Russo, and the silent auction hosted by Ocean State Charity Events will have sports memorabilia and other items.
