Group will use funds to meet a variety of needs, including diabetes camp for kids
On Friday, Feb. 9 at the Elks, the Tewksbury Lions will host Music Bingo. Doors open at 7 p.m., and games start at 7:30 p.m. There will be a cash bar, and attendees can bring their own food.
Tewksbury Lions member Devin Frechette says some reserved tables of 10 are still available, and this is an adults only event. There will be dancing between game rounds. The cost is $25 per person.
“We did a trial of music bingo back in November to try to figure out logistics,” said Frechette. “We had a great time and can’t wait to share this event with even more people at a bigger venue.”
There will be music for everyone, from the oldies to today’s hits and everything in between.
“Each game will have a theme, such as ‘One Hit Wonders’ or ‘Love Songs,'” said Frechette. “The prizes are gift certificates to various businesses around town. We will have raffle baskets and a 50/50.”
She says people get creative about the snacks they bring: charcuterie boards, pizzas, calzones, even six-foot subs with all the fixings.
The Tewksbury Lions are part of Lions Club International, which has 1.4 million members in 49,000 community clubs in nearly every country. Lions causes include vision, diabetes, childhood cancer and hunger. Locally, the Lions sponsor free community movies and recently made donations to the Community Pantry and the Healthy Families of Lowell Holiday party.
The local chapter welcomes new members. They meet the second and fourth Wednesdays of every month, except July and August, at 7 p.m. at TJ Callahans.
“The Tewksbury Lions is a great group of people that are always giving back to the community,” said Frechette. “One of my favorite things we do is sponsor local kids to go to diabetes camp. It’s a great way for the kids to learn to manage their diabetes and meet other kids that are just like them.”
Frechette thanked the community for its support and said Feb. 9 should be a fun night of music, prizes and dancing.
“Ticket sales are going great, so make sure you get yours soon,” said Frechette.
