Trash pickup delayed one day; Saturday is puzzlemania at the Library

Schools and town offices are closed today to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a federal holiday in the United States marking the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr. To recognize MLK, the Tewksbury DEI Advisory Committee plans a day of service that will also commemorate the anniversary of the Civil Rights Act. Watch for details.

Trash pickup, including Christmas tree recycling, is delayed one day due to the holiday.

The Senior Center is now accepting the names of residents looking for AARP tax prep appointments. To sign up, contact Tammy in person or by calling the senior center and leaving a message at ext. 305. 

Puzzle lovers will gather at the library Saturday morning for a puzzle race and swap. Parents note a free concert by MaryBeth Maes.

Nominations are open now through Feb. 9 for the Greater Lowell Chamber of Commerce’s annual Distinguished Young Professional Awards, which recognize people under the age of 40 who live in Billerica, Chelmsford, Dracut, Lowell, Tewksbury or Tyngsboro and demonstrate outstanding leadership, business achievement and community involvement. Council on Aging

Hidden Battles Foundation Heroes Meetup

Weekly support group for military members and veterans, firefighters, police officers, EMS and trauma nurses to discuss their mental health, PTSD and depression in a peer-led environment. Learn more.

Tewksbury’s Antiques Roadshow

Auctioneer and appraiser Ron Wackowski will provide answers to common questions about the antique trade. A free informal “road-show” appraisal session will follow the class. Attendees can each bring one antique to be identified and evaluated. Register here.

Creative Couples of the 17th Century
When: 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.

Judith Leyster, a genre painter, and Rachel Ruysch, a floral painter, were both successful Dutch women artists in the 17th century. Explore the differences in their lives after each married another artist. You can watch on the big screen at the library or join virtually. Learn more.

Movie: Priscilla

Enjoy a screening of one of Hollywood’s newest DVD releases  “Priscilla.” When teenage Priscilla Beaulieu meets Elvis Presley, the man who is already a meteoric rock-and-roll superstar becomes someone entirely unexpected in private moments. The film is based on the memoir Elvis and Me by Priscilla Presley. Biographical Drama. Rated R. 1 Hour, 53 Minutes.

Silvertones Big Band Dance
When: 7 p.m.
Where: Senior Center

Come listen/dance to the sounds of the Silvertones … waltz, Latin, jitterbug, foxtrot, big band, line dances and more. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. This is not a BYOB event. Door prizes this month are two tickets  to a future Silvertones dance. Soda & bottled water available for purchase ($1). Coffee/tea and cake are served during the break.

Suburban Boston Spring Home Show

Puzzle Swap

Bring your jigsaw puzzles to swap. Puzzle pieces should be sealed tightly in a ziplock bag inside the box. Please tape the puzzle box closed. Participants may swap one-for-one or purchase puzzles.
