Rep. Vanna Howard dropped by a field day for Lowell Transitional Living Center
Tewksbury – Employees from the Tewksbury site of Thermo Fisher Scientific at Ames Pond persevered on Sept. 7, one of the hottest days of the year, to offer food, games, and ‘field day kits’ to over 100 clients of the Lowell Transitional Living Center, a local client-centered emergency shelter for homeless adults.

The volunteers staffed barbecues and lawn games and gave out hygiene kits containing reusable water bottles filled with sunscreen packets, organic mosquito repellent, hand sanitizer, and toothbrushes. The Tewksbury site’s Community Action Council secured a $4,500 grant from the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility office to cover the costs of food, games and other supplies.
The team engaged with clients in activities to get their brains and bodies moving, and the grill masters worked with their chef and local food partners to serve a healthy meal. The clients had a fun time and the shelter’s staff (in blue shirts) were thankful to the group; and the event was even attended by the State Representative for Lowell & Tewksbury, Vanna Howard (blue dress in the middle).
“It was a wonderful event and we look forward to making this a tradition,” said Deb Leary, Resource Development Manager for LTLC.
