Briefs: Goodbye Bobby & Jack’s, Hola Tres Amigos; Last Call for Survey; ZBA Agenda

Malden taco destination to open a local branch

Rumors that Bobby & Jack’s Memphis Barbecue restaurant at 1777 Main St. has closed permanently have been confirmed. The lease and assets have been sold, and a Mexican eatery to be called Los Tres Compadres has applied for a food plan review for that location. The new restaurant is by the owners of the 3 Amigos Bar & Grill at 375 Main St. in Malden, which this reporter can confirm offers an excellent birria taco. A spokesman said they hope to be open by October. Before Bobby & Jack’s launched in 2018, the 8,300 square foot restaurant was occupied by Mehfil Indian Cuisine, which took it over from a Chinese buffet. There are nine years left on the lease, according to Bob Ryan, who called the decision to sell difficult but the best all-around choice.

The survey to solicit input from residents regarding the location for an “MBTA Communities” zoning overlay district will close on Friday. M.G.L. 40A requires MBTA adjacent communities to zone up to 15 units per acre by right for a minimum of 50 acres in the community, 25 of which must be contiguous. Learn more. There are six proposed locations across various areas of town. Residents will be asked to answer some demographic questions before ranking the proposed locations for the overlay district. The survey should take less than 5 minutes to complete. TAKE THE SURVEY NOW

The ZBA will address Residence Inn zoning on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. At the last ZBA meeting, town staff as well as a number of Cardigan Rd. residents spoke in favor of this project, saying it will provide needed affordable housing while helping keep the town above the 10% level required to head off a new 40B at Ames Pond or elsewhere in town. Residents can attend the meeting or watch it on Tewksbury TV or Comcast (99) or Verizon (33).

Bob Ryan is a nice guy but I think he got in over his head due to COVID opening Bobby & Jacks and Buying The Pig Rig trailer. At least we still have both Jon Ryan’s Pubs to enjoy.,
