The owner of Bluebird Sandwiches & Pizza announced that Saturday, Dec. 10 will be the last day the shop is open for business. The restaurant opened in May 2021 at the site of the former Tewksbury House of Pizza at 2254 Main St. and featured “modern American comfort food with a twist.” Many Bluebird menu items are not found elsewhere in town and featured locally sourced ingredients.
Chef Matt Doty posted a message to the community on the restaurant’s Instagram: “My father and I cannot overstate the enjoyment that we’ve gotten from cooking for and serving all of you. Thank you so much for eating our food. It’s meant the world to me. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you need a chef for a private event or dinner. This account will still be open.”
Bluebird has a number of devoted fans in town, with one calling it “not your typical local sandwich and pizza shop.” in September, when Wilmington’s water supply was affected by e.coli contamination, Bluebord donated cases of water.
If you, like the Carnation, is a fan of Bluebird’s pizza, drop in before Dec. 10.
