Chamber Seeks to Recognize Inspiring Local Businessperson, Fill Open Board Seats

Do you know a businessperson who is encouraging, supportive, maintains a positive attitude and cheerful disposition and brings life and energy to our community? The Wilmington/Tewksbury Chamber of Commerce will choose just such a local person to receive the 2022 Carmon Cunningham Business Legacy Award.

The Carmon Cunningham award is presented annually by the Chamber to an individual who has achieved exceptional business success in his or her lifetime and who inspires, is innovative and makes an impact in our communities.

“We seek to recognize inspiring leadership that transcends business and leaves a legacy of community and economic vitality for generations to come,” said Nancy Vallee, Chamber executive director, in a release.

Please note that while anyone may nominate, the winner must be, or become, a member of the Wilmington/Tewksbury Chamber of Commerce.

This award will be given to a businessperson who embodies the characteristics of the late Carmon Cunningham, owner of The Cleaner Spot Dry Cleaners. The person who receives this award will embrace Carmon’s work ethic and provide a positive atmosphere, making work a better place.

Carmon Cunningham, before his untimely passing in 2016, was the owner of the successful Cleaner Spot Dry Cleaners and Tailor at Wilmington Crossing. Carmon had been a member of the Chamber’s Board of Directors for five years, serving as the President in 2013 and 2014. Carmon was also involved in a host of community and business organizations and charitable endeavors and was very well-liked and respected by all he interacted with.

Only Chamber members are eligible to win the award. Anyone may nominate a member by emailing the Wilmington/Tewksbury Chamber NO LATER THAN Jan. 31 explaining why you feel your nominee is deserving of the award. Nominations should be detailed and provide specific examples of business success, leadership and community involvement.

In addition, the Chamber will hold its annual election on February 8 to fill two open Board seats for terms running from 2022 to 2025. Board members are responsible for setting the strategic direction and goals for the organization and attending various meetings and events throughout the year. If you are interested in serving, please submit an application to the nomination committee for consideration no later Jan. 31.
