What to Know In Tewksbury the Week of Nov. 14

Residents gearing up to cook for Thanksgiving can take some virtual courses this week. The Library features a packed schedule as well; we’ve listed a few highlights, and residents can get the full calendar for kids, teens and adults here. 

Monday, 11/15
Zoning Bylaw Committee Open Meeting
6 p.m., Town Hall, in-person only

The Zoning Bylaw Committee is working to bring the new bylaw proposal back to Town Meeting in May. The Committee held a listening session on Nov. 2, and at this meeting it will review public comments. Check out the bylaw here; click on “Final Zoning Draft” in the left-hand column.

Tuesday, 11/16
Council on Aging Open Meeting
2 p.m., Senior Center, in-person only

The COA works to enhance the lives of Tewksbury seniors by identifying their needs and developing programs, activities, community involvement and resources to provide them with an independent and enriched quality of life.

Library On the Road: Book Deliveries To Heatherwood
2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Did you know that any resident of Tewksbury who is unable to visit the library due to a permanent condition, or a temporary one that lasts at least 4 weeks, can request book deliveries? Community outreach librarian Robert Hayes visits Heatherwood on the third Tuesday of every month. If you would like to request a delivery, contact Hayes at 978-640-4490 x 205 or rhayes@tewksburypl.org.

50+ Job Seekers Networking Group

If you are unemployed and actively looking, underemployed, seeking a new career direction, re-entering the job market after a long employment gap, or recently retired and looking for your “Encore Career”, this networking group program is perfect for you. This week’s meeting will feature hiring employers. First time attendees need to register HERE. Please make sure to select ‘MA Library Collaborative’ in the ‘Workshop Series or Event’ drop-down menu when registering. The Tewksbury Library has partnered with libraries in Andover, Billerica, Chelmsford, Danvers, North Andover, Shrewsbury, and Wilmington to sponsor this group.

The Tewksbury School Committee will address a variety of items, including a gift to the TMHS Robotics Team.

Is a guest with allergies, or who eats vegan or vegetarian, joining your Thanksgiving? A Michelin trained chef will share recipes for vegan stuffing (gluten-free & grain free adaptions), almond green beans (nut free adaptions), maple roasted carrots, tarragon wild mushrooms and vegan chocolate soufflé (gluten-free & grain free adaptions).

Thursday, 11/17
Outdoor Walking Tour of the Grounds of Tewksbury Hospital
11 a.m., $10 to benefit the Public Health Museum

Enjoy a crisp fall day by walking the grounds of the Tewksbury hospital for the Public Health Museum’s one hour historical tour. These tours happen one Thursday and one Saturday a month for November and December. Weather permitting. Sign up ahead here.

Friday, 11/18
Sur La Table Focus Series: Classic Stuffing & Variations 
4 p.m., $29

While not free, this class covers how to make classic sourdough stuffing along with tasty variations like cornbread dressing, sausage stuffing, oyster stuffing and more. Register here.

Finally, plan ahead to join some of the Carnation team along with Alternative House staff on Saturday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Navigation Brewing Co. in Lowell for a fundraiser to benefit survivors of domestic violence. Kids and dogs are welcome, and you can support a local business and nonprofit while entering to win raffle baskets provided by local Lowell businesses.

Lorna is a U.S. Army veteran and 25-year resident of Tewksbury who has written for organizations ranging from the DIA to InformationWeek to a free weekly in New London that sent her to interview the pastry chef at Foxwoods.
