Longtime New England musician/author Matt York will perform the songs of Johnny Cash and tell stories about Cash’s career spanning from the 1950’s to his passing in 2003. He’ll discuss Cash’s emergence as a groundbreaking artist in the 1950’s, his marriage to June Carter, and many of his other career highlights. York has twice been nominated for the Boston Music Award for Best Country Artist and he recently released his second book, The Words and Wisdom of Willie Nelson.

Join Rachel Vogel, curator of the Addison Gallery of American Art, for a virtual tour of the exhibition “Parasol Press: Breaking New Ground.” The first exhibition to survey Parasol Press’s remarkable publications from 1970–2014, this exhibition showcases radical innovations that pushed the boundaries of printmaking and secured Parasol’s place as one of the most important print publishers of the twentieth century. Parasol’s published editions were among the decade’s most ambitious prints, demonstrating the complex and varied ways artists explored the materiality of printed surfaces while challenging the medium’s limits.

VIRTUAL: American Revolutionary Painters — Benjamin West (*RR)

Benjamin West, born in Pennsylvania, moved to London in 1763. Although West spent the American Revolutionary War in London, he trained and inspired three generations of American artist in London. He also became King George III’s court historical painter and eventually the second President of the London Royal Academy. Explore West’s complicated relationship with both King George III and the American Revolutionary War. Led by art historian Martha Chiarchiaro, who has brought history to life through the art of the times for more than 30 years. She received her Masters in the History of Art from Williams College and provides a variety of art history presentations at the Worcester Art Museum, for WISE (the Worcester Institute for Senior Education), garden clubs, libraries, senior centers, and other organizations. Martha’s specialty presentations related to specific periods, artists, and activities provide an in-depth look at the life and times of people through their art.

In 1972, the United States completed the 6th manned exploration of the Moon. It had taken a decade and billions of dollars to create the technology and procedures to make it a reality. In the half century since then no one has gone back. Following the completion of the Space Shuttle program, America elected to cobble together spare parts to build a spacecraft that can head back towards the Moon. Our Solar System Ambassador, David Ball, introduces us to the SLS program and the plan to go back to the future. Ball served 26 years in the US Air Force, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel, and is a now a volunteer educator with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

A gentle, interactive story time designed especially for our youngest patrons! Babies and their caregivers will enjoy simple stories, rhymes, songs, and bounces that support early language development and bonding. This program is perfect for infants who sit in a caregiver’s lap and are just beginning to explore the world through sound and movement. Join us for sweet moments, early literacy fun, and lots of snuggles. Baby Lapsit is designed for young children ages 0 to 2 years old and their caregivers. All of our story times are interactive for children and their caregivers. Please be ready to participate and play. Don’t worry, we will have a printout with all of the songs and rhymes we are using so you can follow along!
