You can book a TPL Librarian for 30 minutes to help you with your technology questions. You may book up to twice a month, one question per session. Ask about: Using Libby, Hoopla, Kanopy and other library resources; Basic computer skills; Basic tablet skills; Basic phone skills; Using email; and Using Microsoft Office and comparable programs.

IN PERSON: Community Support Hours

Vinfen’s Mobile Respite Program will be at the library on Tuesday, October 14, from 4:30-6:30 PM for drop-in services. Vinfen is a nonprofit that can connect you with services and programs to help with: Finding housing; Getting healthcare; Receiving assistance for disabilities; Finding help for mental health needs; Recovery support; Assistance with filling out applications; and Getting transportation to services. Stop by the Trustees’ Room on the second floor and speak with a representative from Vinfen!

OFFSITE: Welcome To Tewksbury Reception @ Senior Center (*RR)

Have you moved to town in the past two years? Are you interested in learning more about what Tewksbury has to offer? You are invited to the 6th Annual “Welcome To Tewksbury” Reception, held at the Tewksbury Senior Center (175 Chandler Street). New residents are encouraged to drop in anytime during the 90-minute reception to: Meet representatives from town government, schools, businesses, and community organizations. Learn about their services, programs, and volunteer opportunities. Enjoy conversation with other residents who are new to Tewksbury. Pick up a FREE Welcome Bag filled with information, coupons & gift items from Chamber businesses. (1 per household.) Purchase meals and snacks from food trucks on site. While the evening is geared towards residents who have moved to town since the last Welcome Reception, ALL residents are welcome.  This event is sponsored by the Tewksbury Public Library and Wilmington-Tewksbury Chamber of Commerce. Please note that while the event is hosted at the Tewksbury Senior Center, this is an all-ages event.

IN-PERSON: MassHire Lowell Mobile Career Center

Wednesday, October 15, 10am-2pm

The MassHire Lowell Mobile Career Center is visiting Tewksbury! Every Wednesday from August 6-October 29, the Mobile Career Center will be parked outside the library from 10AM-2PM to help job seekers. The MassHire Lowell Mobile Career Center is a mobile bus unit that has been equipped with solar panels to power workstations within the bus to allow for Career Center services to hit the road to all of our local communities, cities and towns. It will provide information on: Career Services; Current Training Programs; Job Search Events; and Hiring Events.

Calling all knitters, crocheters, needle workers, beaders, and colorers! Bring your own craft project to the Library and work on it while enjoying conversation with other crafters. (Please, no crafts involving glue or paint.) Take advantage of the many books available at the library to get ideas for your next project or to explore a new craft. We will be meeting in person.

In October, we will be reading “The Library of the Dead” by T. L. Huchu. Ropa dropped out of school to become a ghost talker, and she now speaks to Edinburgh’s dead – carrying messages to the living – but when she learns someone is bewitching children she investigates and discovers an occult library, a taste for hidden magic, and a wealth of Edinburgh’s dark secrets. Copies of the book are available at the Front Desk one month prior to meeting. We will be meeting in person, in the Trustees Room on the second floor of the library.

The Library 50+ Job Seekers Networking Group meets via Zoom on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month, from 9:30am to 11:30am. Informal networking takes place from 9am to 9:30am and 11:30am to noon. If you are unemployed and actively looking, underemployed, seeking a new career direction, re-entering the job market after a long employment gap, or recently retired and looking for your “Encore Career,” this networking group program is perfect for you! VIRTUAL: Great American Unsung Heroes Who Changed The Course Of History — Edith Nourse Rogers (*RR)

Retired Massachusetts Superior Court Justice Dennis Curran is excited to continue his “Great American Unsung Heroes Who Changed The Course Of History” series. This month, learn about Congresswoman Edith Nourse Rogers. She championed the enactment of the G.I. Bill of Rights, which had the single greatest effect on the American way of life. Millions of Americans were able to go to college because of her. Millions more were able to buy their first home, allowing them to achieve the American dream. The Veterans Administration Center, less than a mile from here, is named in her honor. And yet Edith Nourse Rogers, a Congresswoman who represented Northeastern Massachusetts, never received the credit she deserved. Learn about this remarkable woman, in a Congress dominated by men, who by sheer force of will, pluck and hard work, accomplished so much for so many Americans.

VIRTUAL: Michelangelo — Sculptor Of The Renaissance (*RR)

Michelangelo was a true Renaissance man, with superb skills as a painter, architect, poet, and sculptor. It is as a sculptor that we will explore the profession that pleased him the most. From his early bas relief works in Florence to the multiple statues he carved from Carrara marble for the unfinished tomb of Julius II, examine his technique to release the image from within the marble. From the iconic early image of his David through the numerous Pieta, he created throughout his lifetime, we will witness the progress of Michelangelo’s more than sixty-year career as a sculptor. Led by art historian Martha Chiarchiaro, owner of Seeing History.

VIRTUAL: The Poetic and Musical Genius of Taylor Swift (*RR)

Harvard professor Stephanie Burt will deliver a fascinating presentation based on her brand-new book, Taylor’s Version: The Poetic and Musical Genius of Taylor Swift. Burt, who is a poet and literary scholar, will offer an insightful and heartfelt critical appreciation of Taylor Swift, her body of work, and the community that her art has fostered. Drawing from her 2024 Harvard course, Taylor Swift and Her World, as well as from her years as a Swiftie, Burt will examine Swift’s particular form of genius – not the destructive genius of tortured poets, but the collaborative and joyful genius of an artist who has mastered her craft. Burt is the Donald P. and Katherine B. Loker Professor of English at Harvard University. Her work appears in the New York Times Book Review, the New Yorker, and the London Review of Books, among others. Her other books of poetry and literary criticism — fourteen in all — include We Are Mermaids, Advice from the Lights, and Don’t Read Poetry: A Book About How to Read Poems.

Join us for a spooky fall craft, Tea Light Ghosty! We will be creating a our tea light ghosty out of air dry clay, a flameless candle, and a bit of your own flair! This event is for teens in grades 6-12.

IN PERSON: Speedcubing Club (*RR)

Wednesday, October 15, 6pm

Join us for a brand new, teen-run club – Speedcubing Club! Beginners will learn the skills needed to work towards solving their first cube. All experience levels are welcome. Speedcubing Club’s activities are created at beginner level. Open to teens in grades 6-12. Children’s Events (In-Person)

IN PERSON: Barks & Books with Benny (*RR)

Tuesday, October 14, 4:30pm-5:30pm

Children (especially those struggling with reading) are invited to sign up for a one-on-one session with our service dog Benny on Tuesday afternoons. Barks and Books are open to children reading independently.  Each session lasts for 15 minutes in private – just you, Benny, and his human Mom, Melanie. Bring your own book or borrow one of ours to read. This is a great way to build literacy confidence and fluency with a non-judgmental canine reading partner!

Calling all young builders! Join us for Lego Club, where kids can get creative, build cool creations, and explore fun building challenges. Whether you’re a master builder or just getting started, there’s something for everyone. Bricks provided, so just bring your imagination!

IN PERSON: Baby Story Time

Wednesday, October 15, 10:15am

Join us for a fun session of stories, songs, fingerplays, and gentle movement that help build early literacy skills. Babies experience the sounds and structure of language through rhythm, rhyme and repetition. Baby Story Time is designed for young children ages 0 to 2 years old and their caregivers. All of our story times are interactive for children and their caregivers. Please be ready to participate and play. Don’t worry, we will have a printout with all of the songs and rhymes we are using so you can follow along! Story Times run in sessions. You can drop in one week, every week or however works best for your schedule. No registration is required. This session is Wednesdays from September 10 – December 17 (excluding closings and other exceptions).

IN PERSON: Preschool Playgroup

Preschool playgroup is a weekly group where kids can meet, play, and learn. Pick up STEM and literacy skills, and have some fun while you’re at it! Sponsored by Community Teamwork Inc’s Family Resource Network. The Family Resource Network is funded by the Coordinated Family and Community Engagement Grant (CFCE) from the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care.

IN PERSON: Melty Makers (*RR)

Thursday, October 16, 3:30pm

It’s time to get creative! Make the Perler Bead pattern we have available, or try your own ideas. You’ll have 30-45 minutes to create, and we’ll spend the last 15-30 minutes ironing your creations. This event is open to children in grades 3-5. Registration is required.
