Adult Events (In-Person)

IN-PERSON: Adult Board Game Night (*RR)

Tuesday, August 26, 6pm

Enjoy playing board games while socializing with others! This month, board game extraordinaire Jonah McCreary will be teaching us how to play Small World. Additionally, several tables will be available for “open play” if you’d like to bring your own games or borrow one of the library’s games to play. Complimentary pizza will be provided.

IN PERSON: MassHire Lowell Mobile Career Center

Wednesday, August 27, 10am-2pm

The MassHire Lowell Mobile Career Center is visiting Tewksbury! Every Wednesday from August 6-October 29, the Mobile Career Center will be parked outside the library from 10AM-2PM to help job seekers. The MassHire Lowell Mobile Career Center is a mobile bus unit that has been equipped with solar panels to power workstations within the bus to allow for Career Center services to hit the road to all of our local communities, cities and towns. It will provide information on: Career Services; Current Training Programs; Job Search Events; and Hiring Events. No registration is required. In the event of severe weather, the event may be cancelled or cut short.

Enjoy a screening of one of Hollywood’s newest DVD releases — The Phoenician Scheme. Wealthy businessman Zsa-zsa Korda appoints his only daughter, a nun, as sole heir to his estate. As Korda embarks on a new enterprise, they soon become the target of scheming tycoons, foreign terrorists and determined assassins. Directed by Wes Anderson. This month, join us for a discussion of The Storyteller’s Death by Ann Davila Cardinal. When Isla turns eighteen, her grandmother, a great storyteller, dies. It is then that Isla discovers she has a gift passed down through her family’s cuentistas. The tales of dead family storytellers are brought back to life, replaying themselves over and over in front of her. New members are always welcome! Copies of the book are available at the Front Desk one month prior to meeting.

IN PERSON: Meditation Class (*RR)

Thursday, August 28, 3:30pm

Chris Connolly, RN, BSN, owner of “Living My Dream Yoga,” will lead a 4-week series of meditation classes. Classes will take place from 3:30pm to 4:30pm over four consecutive Thursdays — August 7, 14, 21 and 28 — in the library’s Meeting Room. Classes are designed for both those who are new to meditation and regular practitioners.

The Tewksbury Community Market takes place on Thursdays, from 4pm to 7pm, from June 5, 2025 from September 25, 2025, in the parking lot behind the Tewksbury Recreation Center at Livingston St. Park (288 Livingston Street). The market has 70 vendors overall, with 30-35 vendors present on any given week. Each week’s lineup of vendors is listed on the Market’s website at www.tewksburymarket.com.

VIRTUAL: Nature Travel To New Zealand (*RR)

New Zealand is home to many rare birds and marine mammals including the comical yellow-eyed penguin. Watch and listen as the yellow-eyed penguin returns from the ocean to feed its chick and the Antipodes Island parrot demonstrates “looks, personality and talent.” Not to be outdone, rare New Zealand sea lions make quite an impression as they interact on isolated South Island beaches, pods of rare Hector’s dolphins frolic near coastal shores and dusky dolphins play with kayakers as they travel deep into the fiords of southern New Zealand. Enjoy the sights and sounds of animal personalities from this amazing country.  Led by Joy Marzolf, owner of “The Joys of Nature,” which runs nature, nature travel and live animal programs for all ages. Marzolf, a wildlife photographer, previously worked as a Naturalist and Educator at Mass Audubon’s Broadmoor Wildlife Sanctuary.

VIRTUAL: TEWKSBURY WRITING GROUP – Advice From Audiobook Producer Scott Ellis (*RR)

Are you a writer — or an aspiring writer — looking for some support? The Tewksbury Writing Group is open to everyone who’s interested in writing — all genres, all skill levels. Each meeting — which will take place via Zoom — features a guest speaker (typically a published author or editor) offering some tips of the trade.  The August 2025 guest speaker is award-winning audiobook producer and narrator Scott Ellis. A trained actor, musician and retired teacher, Scott is the owner of Scott Ellis Reads, which has produced over 100 audiobooks, both in the genres of fiction and non-fiction. Scott was the Co-Narrator and Producer of Skull’s Vengeance, 2024 Audiobook of the Year for Fantasy from AudiobookReviewer.com. He was also the Producer of Magda, Standing, the IBPA 2024 Gold Medal Winner Young Adult Fiction Audiobook of the Year.

VIRTUAL: JOB SEARCH HELP — Ageism In The Job Search (*RR)

By now, you’ve heard about ageism in the job search. Yes, it is illegal. It’s also rampant. Perhaps, you’ve experienced it. Thousands of smart and experienced workers can’t land a job, because of misguided perceptions and biases against mature job seekers. During this session, career coach Ed Lawrence reveals the ageism presentation that he showed recently to a group of coaches and resume writers in Chicago. This presentation was aimed not at job seekers, but at the people whose job is to help job seekers. Ed will show you the survey results that reveal whether or not the coaches & writers make a difference and show you the suggestions he gave to the professional audience for better assisting job seekers.
