IN PERSON: CrafterDARK

Monday, June 9, 7pm

Can’t attend Crafternoon??? Try CrafterDARK, a monthly crafting date after work! Calling all knitters, crocheters, needle workers, beaders, and colorists!  Bring your own craft project to the Library and work on it while enjoying conversation with other crafters. (Please, no crafts involving glue or paint.) Take advantage of the many books available at the library to get ideas for your next project or to explore a new craft. We will be meeting in person.

OFFSITE: Walking Tour Of The Tewksbury Hospital Campus (*RR)

Come explore the history of the legendary Tewksbury State Hospital, which opened its doors in May 1854 as the State Almshouse. Led by a knowledgeable volunteer guide from the Public Health Museum, join this 60+ minute walking tour to explore life in days past, the history of a vibrant community, its architecture, the lives of its patients and staff, and its connection to public health. Meet in front of the Public Health Museum (365 East Street), located on the grounds of the Tewksbury State Hospital.

Enjoy a screening of one of Hollywood’s newest DVD releases — The Luckiest Man Alive. In May 1984, an unemployed ice cream truck driver steps onto the game show Press Your Luck harboring a secret: the key to endless money. Chris Connolly, RN, BSN, owner of “Living My Dream Yoga,” will lead a 2-week series of meditation classes. Classes will take place from 3:30pm to 4:30pm over two consecutive Thursdays — June 5 and June 12 — in the library’s Meeting Room. Classes are designed for both those who are new to meditation and regular practitioners.

The Tewksbury Community Market takes place on Thursdays, from 4pm to 7pm, from June 5, 2025 from September 25, 2025, in the parking lot behind the Tewksbury Recreation Center at Livingston St. Park (288 Livingston Street). The market has 70 vendors overall, with 30-35 vendors present on any given week. Each week’s lineup of vendors is listed on the Market’s website. VIRTUAL: An Evening with Trans Author Edward Underhill (“The In Between Bookstore”) (*RR)

Author Edward Underhill will discuss his new book, The In-Between Bookstore, a poignant and enchanting novel about a magical bookstore that transports a trans man through time and brings him face-to-face with his teenage self, offering him the chance of a lifetime to examine his life and identity to find a new beginning. Underhill, who is trans and queer, writes books about characters who are trans and queer, including the YA novels — Always the Almost; This Day Changes Everything; and In Case You Read This.

Join Professor Elena Conis, author of Vaccine Nation: America’s Changing Relationship with Immunization and Acting Dean of UC Berkeley’s School of Journalism, for a discussion about measles and the modern history of vaccination in the United States. She’ll be joined by Hillary Johnson, MHS, Senior Epidemiology Advisor to Local Health for the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, who’ll discuss what measles is and how we track it today. The discussion will be moderated by Dr. Louis Fazen, III, MPH, pediatrician and founder of the Global Health Committee at the Massachusetts Medical Society, former faculty member at UMass Chan Medical School, and a local Board of Health chairperson, along with Scott Podolsky, MD, Professor of Global Health and Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Director of the Center for the History of Medicine at the Countway Library.

Led by Oonagh Williams, an award-winning chef, cooking instructor, cookbook author and professional speaker, who enjoys traveling and sharing her travel experiences when she’s not busy in the kitchen. Williams spent several years studying in Lithuania, and specializes in cooking Lithuanian cuisine.
