Enjoy a delightful and informative overview of Henry David Thoreau’s life, quirks, and lesser-known aspects that challenge common misconceptions about his experiment at Walden Pond (1845-47). Led by Richard Piccarreto, a certitifed tour guide in Concord, a Cultural Interpreter for the Trustees of Reservations at the Old Manse, and Membership and Development Coordinator for The Thoreau Society.

Dr. Catherine (“Katie”) Brown is the Massachusetts State Epidemiologist and Public Health Veterinarian, and current President of the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists. She plays a key role at the state and national level in monitoring and responding to infectious disease threats, and has been involved with avian influenza for over 20 years. She will give a clear and authoritative overview of the nation’s current situation and the risk that avian influenza presents. Bird behaviors can be quirky, surprising, and sometimes confusing. From flight to feeding, you’ll learn how to interpret some of the most common behaviors. Once you tackle these basics, the value of your birdwatching transforms from admiring their beauty to appreciating their complex lives. Led by Scott Santino, the Education Manager and Teacher Naturalist at Mass Audubon’s Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary in Topsfield.

Join us for Reading Buddies! Littles in grades K-5 who are learning to read will be paired with a teen volunteer in grades 9-12. Each week, they’ll practice reading to one another and then do a craft. Reading Buddies runs from March 19-April 23 and meets every Wednesday from 4:30-5:15 PM in the Children’s Room. Join Emily for a fun session of stories, songs, fingerplays, and gentle movement that help build early literacy skills. Babies experience the sounds and structure of language through rhythm, rhyme and repetition. Baby Story Time is designed for young children ages 0 to 2 years old and their caregivers. All of our story times are interactive for children and their caregivers. Please be ready to participate and play. Don’t worry, we will have a printout with all of the songs and rhymes we are using so you can follow along!
