‘Tai Chi of Today – Gentle Movements, Rooted in History’ TPL Event

Instructors from Harmony Tai Chi Center have successfully returned from an international Tai Chi competition in Taiwan, where they earned top honors. They will be hosting an event at the Tewksbury Public Library this upcoming Monday, December 16th.

Eugene Katz recently returned from the International Tai Chi competition in Taiwan, held on November 17th, where he successfully defended his title, earning 1st place in “Basic Form, Second Section.” The 10th Yonghe Cup, held in Taoyuan, Taiwan, featured 18 teams and nearly 500 participants. Competitions included a variety of Tai Chi forms, Tai Chi saber, Tai Chi sword, Tai Chi staff, Tai Chi push hands, Tai Chi free sparring, and more.

As a certified Tai Chi instructor, Eugene will be offering a new beginner class this January, with a free introductory session!

Eugene’s teacher, Tai-Chun Pan, had a successful showing at the competition, with his students winning 2nd place in the group competition for basic form. Out of the 6 participants, they earned a total of 10 medals, including 4 golds.

On Monday the 16th, from 7pm to 8pm, Eugene Katz and Tai-Chun Pan will be hosting a talk at the Tewksbury Library titled “Tai Chi of Today – Gentle Movements, Rooted in History.” This event will explore the rich heritage of Tai Chi.

Attendees will learn about the evolution of this ancient practice, which has become a popular method for relaxation and wellness. The session will include live demonstrations, offering insights into Tai Chi’s history and modern-day applications. The talk will be led by Eugene Katz, a certified instructor at Harmony Tai Chi Center, and his teacher, Tai-Chun Pan.

Tai-Chun Pan, who runs the Harmony Tai Chi Center, is dedicated to preserving the Traditional Yang Style Old Frame passed down from Grandmaster Xiong Yanghe. He has been teaching Tai Chi in the Boston area since 1980. Eugene Katz, who has been teaching Tai Chi since 2009, also practices Goju Ryu and Shorin Ryu karate.
