Below are TEN things (in no particular order) happening in Tewksbury on Monday, September 9, 2024:

Free School Supplies (While Supplies Last!) At Tewksbury Library

The Tewksbury Public Library (300 Chandler Street) is giving away school supplies from 10am to 5pm (while supplies last) in its first-floor lobby. These supplies, donated by Tewksbury Walmart and community members, were left over from the library’s School Supply Drive last week. Supplies are available to anyone in need, including teachers. Tewksbury Author Jean Trounstine Discusses “Motherlove”

The Tewksbury Public Library is partnering with the Memorial Hall Library in Andover to host Tewksbury author Jean Trounstine for a virtual discussion of her new short-story collection, Motherlove, at 7pm on ZOOM. The book explores ten stories of different mothers struggling with the aftermath of their child committing a murder. Trounstine is an acclaimed author, prison reform activist, and professor emerita at Middlesex Community College. Learn more and register HERE.

The Tewksbury Public Library is also partnering with the Ashland Public Library to host bestselling author Evan Friss for a virtual discussion of his new book, The Bookshop: A History of the American Bookstore, at 7pm on ZOOM. Learn more and register HERE.

Tewksbury Planning Board Meeting

The Tewksbury Planning Board meets at Town Hall (1009 Main Street) at 7pm. Read the meeting agenda HERE. The highlight of the agenda appears to be the expansion of the Eco Auto Dealership (623 Main Street), which purchased the property next door at 611 Main Street. Read their application HERE. The meeting is open to the public. The meeting will also be televised on Comcast (Ch. 6) and Verizon (Ch. 33) and streamed on the Town’s YouTube channel.

Tewksbury Community Pantry Open For Food Distribution

The Tewksbury Community Pantry (999 Whipple Road) is open for food distribution from 7pm to 8pm. Tewksbury residents experiencing food insecurity are invited to apply HERE. Pantry clients will receive a pre-packaged box of food and an additional bag of food provided by the USDA. Meat and cheese are distributed when available.

Tewksbury Republican Town Committee Monthly Meeting

The Tewksbury Republican Town Committee is holding its monthly meeting in the First Floor Meeting Room at Town Hall (1009 Main Street) at 7pm. Learn how you can help Republican candidates running for office in November’s election.

Tewksbury Senior Center’s UPScale Boutique Consignment Shoppe Monthly Intake Hours

The UPScale Boutique Consignment Shoppe at the Tewksbury Senior Center (175 Chandler Street) is holding its monthly intake hours from 2pm to 5pm. The Shoppe provide “upscale” clothing and other articles to the public at an affordable price while offering Consignors an opportunity to turn items they no longer use into profit for themselves and for the Senior Center. Run entirely by volunteers, the primary purpose of the Shoppe is to generate funds to be applied towards the cost of operating expenses of the Tewksbury Senior Center and for programs for Seniors.

New Tewksbury Recreation Offerings Begin Today

The Greater Lowell Family YMCA is holding a 6-week Visual Arts Class for Ages 7-14 on Monday nights, from 5pm to 6pm, from September 9, 2024 through October 14, 2024, at the Tewksbury Recreation Center (352 Livingston Street). Art supplies will be provided. The class costs $48 for family members, $60 for individual members, and $72 for non-members. Learn more and register HERE.

The Greater Lowell Family YMCA is also holding a 7-week Generation Pound Class for Ages 7-14 on Monday nights, from 6pm to 6:45pm, from September 9, 2024 through October 21, 2024, at the Tewksbury Recreation Center (352 Livingston Street). Kids will channel their inner rockstar with this full body cardio-jam session inspired by the infectious and energizing challenge of playing the drums. Parent or guardian supervision is required. Line Dancing At Wamesit Lanes

Wamesit Lanes (434 Main Street) is hosting free line dancing on its patio every Monday night this September, from 7pm to 9pm, courtesy of 603 Line Dance. All skill levels are welcome. Learn more HERE.

Free Felting Class At Tewksbury Library

The Tewksbury Public Library (300 Chandler Street) is hosting a free Felting Class for Adults from 7pm to 8:30pm. Led by fiber artist and instructor Rachel Benson, owner of The Fiber Web, participants will learn the basics of felting by completing a needle felted project involving pumpkins and jack-o’-lanterns. 8 Fitness Classes At Tewksbury Senior Center

The Tewksbury Senior Center (175 Chandler Street) is hosting 8 fitness/wellness classes today:

  • Forever Fit (9am)
  • Tap Dance (9:45am)
  • Men’s Stretch & Strengthen (10:30am)
  • Light Yoga (11am)
  • Bone Builders #2 (12:30pm)
  • Bone Builders #1 (2pm)
  • Gentle Yoga (3:30pm)
  • Cardio Drumming (4:30pm)

Most fitness/wellness class fees are paid either by the month OR by purchasing a punch card. Punch card cost is $35 and allows seniors to attend 10 classes of their choice. Cards can be purchased in the Senior Center’s Office. Seniors may drop in to try any of the fitness/wellness classes for FREE. Please note Bone Builders classes and the Cardio Drumming class are grant-funded with no cost to participants but do require registration to participate. Call the Senior Center at 978-640-4480 with any questions.
