Letter to the Editor: Karen Cassella

Dear Editor:

My name is Karen Cassella and I am running for Register of Deeds.  I am not a career politician but a hardworking women seeking an elected position that focuses on practical services in the office rather than government policy.

The Registry is the holder of real estate records.  Anything to do with your property is recorded with this office for the Middlesex North district.  The office is the library of real estate records as far back as 1629.

I starting my career in 1992 at the Registry of Deeds. My years of experience means much more in this position than any degree.  I definitely have the practical skills, knowledge and dedication necessary to excel in this role and serve our community effectively.  Being the most experience candidate with the knowledge of the job I am dedicated to serving our community with integrity and commitment.  Residents of Middlesex County would benefit from my professional background because of my extensive experience of the law in recording legal documents.

While I may not be an attorney, my expertise in reviewing and recording legal documents against your property equips me to effectively address the needs and concerns of all residents, ensuring their interest are well represented and supported.  Additionally my fresh perspective and dedication to collaboration make me well suited to work alongside legal professionals to achieve positive outcomes for the residents of Middlesex County.

My changes in our office are based on my years of observing exactly what people come into the office for and what will help them get their questions answered.  I will be looking to start some out reach to communities.  Making sure I meet the with towns to educate them on what is required on the town documents in order for us to record the documents against the owners titles.  I will give them information about the ability to e-file from their town offices. I will offer a lawyer of the day program.  Keeping the public informed about steps needed to take when starting estate planning or changes to their title. A south Satellite office for surrounding towns to help out the attorneys record and home owners while generating income for the state.

I will make the office public friendly for all using it.  I will notarize real estate documents.

I will continue to offer the oath to qualify for appointed notaries or justice of the peace from the state of Massachusetts.

Working at the Registry from 1992 to today I have been involved with the digitizing of documents as well as the electronic filing of documents.  I know the job well and look forward to being the next leader in making the office run efficiently and that the work is accurate for keeping our titles safe and free from error.

My family and I have been part of our community for many, many years.  My husband and my son are both Police Officers here in the city of Lowell.  My husband has been on the force for 29 years and my son for 9 years.  I also have extended  family members who work for the Lowell Fire Department and Tyngsboro Police Department.  We are all union employees with a career working for the people in this community. I will fully commit to working for the people in the Middlesex North District.  I respectfully as you to vote for me September 3, 2024.

Best Regards,

Karen Cassella
