Letter to the Editor:
My name is Sokhary Chau and I’m running to be Middlesex North’s next Register of Deeds. After emigrating from Cambodia in the late 1970’s, my mother, six siblings, and I eventually settled in Lowell.
After graduating college, my wife, Somong, and I started a mortgage company, helping dozens of working families achieve the dream of home ownership. I later worked with law firms and in real estate before turning my attention to public service. In 2019, I was elected to the Lowell City Council, and in 2022, I became the first Cambodian-American mayor in U.S. history.
I’m running for Register of Deeds to protect home ownership and provide real benefits for everyone who calls the district home. An effective Register’s main focus is to provide the leadership and vision that guides the office. Throughout my career, I’ve led everything from a small business to a major city. As Register, I’ll leverage this experience and the relationships I’ve built with business, community, and government leaders to increase the Registry’s funding, expand constituent services, and keep homeowners’ information secure.
