Congratulations to new COA board Chairperson Donna Bell.
With a full quorum present, Vice-Chair Ginny Desmond called the May 21 meeting to order at 3:02.
The meeting minutes of April 16, 2024, were unanimously approved, as were the financials reports for April 2024.
Here are some highlights from the calendar: On Monday, June 2, the Consignment Boutique will have the monthly intake. Don’t forget the Rainbow Social on Thursday, June 6. The Health Fair, originally scheduled in April, will be held on Friday, June 7, with new hours of 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Be sure to register at the reception desk for the Elder Law presentation on Thursday, June 13. Learn about estate planning and have breakfast too. Juneteenth is a federal holiday, and the Center will be closed on Wednesday, June 19. Friday the 21st at 7 p.m., the Silvertones will again be playing our favorite tunes for your dancing and listening pleasure. Here is the link to the Senior Moments, our monthly newsletter, where you will find many more activities for June.
Director Jan Conole reports that Age Span will again offer the Farm to Table program and have fresh vegetables delivered here in the summer. Please contact Susan (978-640-4480) to see if you qualify for this program. Ten self-watering garden beds have been added, so this year more vegetables can be grown and offered free to seniors. Susan is also starting a Drums Alive program on Friday, June 7. Lots more activities and day trips are going on in June, so check it out.
New business for the Board was to nominate and elect a new Chairperson. This action was necessary because of the resignation of Lynn Murphy in March. Vice-Chair Ginny Desmond opened the nominations; Michael McDermott was nominated and seconded, as was Ginny Desmond. Both nominees then declined their respective nominations due to other commitments but may be interested at a later date. At this point, Donna Bell was nominated and on a roll call vote was unanimously elected Chairperson of the COA. Donna has been on the council for over four years and looks forward to “enhancing the lives of our Senior Citizens” and supporting the mission statement of the COA.
Because Donna was the Treasurer of the council, it was necessary to elect a new Treasurer. Jeff Dufour put his name out and was duly elected Treasurer of the COA. Congratulations and thank you to Donna and Jeff for stepping forward.
The next meeting of the COA will be on June 18 at 3 p.m.
