Weekly spring chess classes, week-long summer chess camp to be hosted at Tewksbury Public Library
The town of Tewksbury is pleased to announce a new partnership with Chess Wizards, which will bring youth chess lessons, exciting tournaments, fun team activities and summer camp to the Tewksbury Public Library, located at 300 Chandler St.
Chess Wizards will offer a safe, fun, and friendly environment for kids grades K-5 to learn how to play and compete in chess. Their mission is to inspire lifelong learning both on and off the chess board as well as build relationships and communities connected through the game of chess. Kids will experience an interactive curriculum for beginners all the way up to experienced chess players.
This initial offering will have an eight-week program with class every Friday, 4 – 5 p.m., from May 3 through June 28. There will also be a weeklong summer chess camp from August 19 through August 23, offered at half-day and full-day increments.
Registration links are hosted on the newly launched “Recreation Resources” page on the Town website under the Chess Wizards subpage at www.tewksbury-ma.gov/recreation. The registration link will redirect to the Chess Wizard’s online portal and requires creating a login. The registration link may be accessed via www.tewksbury-ma.gov/chesswizards. Those interested can also go directly to www.chesswizards.com and search “Tewksbury” programming.
In addition to the Chess Wizards programming portal, the new webpage offers links to various Town recreation resources including youth sports, YMCA programming at the recreation center, and the library. The resources are listed as they have been most recently provided to the Town and are not exhaustive as they are updated on an ongoing basis. For organization-specific information, please contact the youth sports groups directly.
