Ferdinand Plans to Challenge Robertson for 19th Middlesex Seat

Current Tewksbury Board of Health candidate plans to run dual races

Tewksbury Board of Health candidate George Ferdinand has pulled papers for the 19th Middlesex House of Representatives seat held by Rep. David Robertson since 2019, the Secretary of State’s office has confirmed. Ferdinand plans to run as an unaffiliated, nonparty candidate.

In response to a query as to whether he will withdraw from the 19th Middlesex race if he wins the Tewksbury Board of Health seat, Ferdinand said he has no intention of doing so.

At issue is whether an individual can simultaneously hold a state office and a municipal office in Tewksbury. Ferdinand said he plans to work with the elections division and the Secretary of State’s office for clarification.

Robertson, who represents Wilmington and much of Tewksbury, has generally faced Republicans in general elections. In the 2022 general, he was challenged by Republican Paul Sarnowski, and in 2020, by Tewksbury resident Alec DiFruscia, also a Republican. Robertson won both races with about 56% of the vote. He has not had an unaffiliated party challenger since 2018, when Patricia Meuse ran and took 8.3% of the vote.

For the Tewksbury Board of Health race, Ferdinand is running for one of two three-year seats. He has three challengers, all seeking write-in votes: Febe Cunha, Luke Miller and Donna Robitaille.

His platform is here.

The 2 party system is broken and is need of a serious wake up call. I plan on running against the Democratic and Republican Primary winners for the 19th District seat. Not an individual person’s seat. I am currently also supporting Independent candidate Margie Campbell of Wilmington for U.S. Senator for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. We will having a co-Meet and Greet upon confirmation of the event in May.
