Update: A suspect is in custody. Thanks TPD.
On Friday, Feb. 2, at approximately 4:30 p.m. the Tewksbury Public Library reported that a male party wearing a black jacket with a hood and grey sweatpants (see photos) took a donation box into the men’s restroom, smashed it open and stole approximately $50.
The donation box was a part of a “Love Your Library” fundraiser where children and families would decorate a paper heart and write a message on it about why they loved their library. The suspect is alleged to have taken the box into the men’s restroom around 12:30 p.m.
“He broke the box, took the money and he was observed leaving on foot heading southbound,” said Columbus.
The ‘Love Your Library’ program is run during February by the Friends of the Tewksbury Public Library, which fund about $30,000 in programming annually for kids, teens and adults.
“It was so disheartening to have someone take the Friends money,” said FoTPL President Mary Ann Taylor.
If you can identify this individual or have any information about this incident, Columbus asks that you contact the TPD at 978-640-4385, call their anonymous tip line at 978-851-0175 or go to their website under contact to submit an anonymous tip.
Residents can learn more about or make a donation to the Friends at their website or by stopping by the Library.
