Blue 7 also prevailed on the road, with Avarie McMasters named player of the game
Facing a tough Chelmsford team, 6 Red rallied from a six point halftime deficit to beat Chelmsford by a score of 30-27. Kiley MacDonald led all scorers with seven points, while Olivia Brewster had a big three pointer in the first half and 5 points in total. Sydney Hyslop, Avery Comeau and Jill Wagstaff each had four points, and Abby Lane added both an offensive and defensive rebound.
Defensively, Tewksbury forced numerous turnovers including a combined 13 steals from Comeau and Wagstaff. When reached for comment after the game, Chelmsford assistant and former Tewksbury resident Steve Bettencourt was quoted as saying “tremendous defensive game from Tewksbury. We cannot turn the ball over that many times and expect to win in this league.”
Wagstaff led the team with 3 assists, while Hannah D’Angelo made a clutch free throw late in the second half to extend the Tewksbury lead.
6 Red next took the court against Pelham and prevailed for their second victory of the season, this time by a score of 25-24, as 6 Red never trailed in the game. Avery Comeau filled the box score with twelve points, four rebounds, four steals and two assists. She was followed by Brielle Vongsa and Kiley MacDonald, who both had six points. Jill Wagstaff, Olivia Brewster, Avery Cruz and Vongsa each added an assist. On the defensive end, 6 Red was led by the pair of Taelyn Smart and Sydney Hyslop, who combined for 6 rebounds and Cruz, who had 2 steals and continues to anchor the team defensively.
On Jan 6, 2024 Tewksbury Travel Team Blue 7 picked up a road victory, moving their record to 5 – 0. Tewksbury traveled to play North Andover and won 22 to 10. Tewksbury was led by Lydia Newell 6pts, Avarie McMasters 6pts, Mariabella Cracchiolo 4pts, Alazne Carvajal 2pts, Lila Morris 2pts and Caly Loring 2pts.
Avarie McMasters was named Player of the Game by the coaches.
