Tewksbury bests Tyngsboro and Lowell to go 3-0
Tewksbury’s 5th Grade basketball team, 5 Red, went 3-0 during the annual Lowell Holiday Tournament at Lowell High School to win the 5th grade girls division. Tewksbury defeated Tyngsboro 16 – 12 and beat a scrappy Lowell team 23 – 13 and 19 – 11.
The team saw outstanding play from Bria Laidlaw who stepped up her offensive game during the tourney netting 8 points and continuing to play great defense. Sawyer Giampa continued to fill up the stat sheet with her outstanding defense and silky jump shot. The combo guard dropped 16 points during the tourney. Shaun Stevenson played great throughout the week coming up with key steals that led to fast break points. Natalie Condon put together a fantastic rebounding performance over the course of the week that kept the other teams at bay, she also scored 4 points.
Sofia Lyons continued to be a force all over the court, leading all scorers with 17 points in the tournament and anchoring the team’s rebounding efforts. She also earned several trips to the free throw line. Addison Obie did a fantastic job pushing the ball up the floor to find open teammates and facilitating the team’s offense. Karina Sheehan could be found hustling all over the court coming up with important steals and big rebounds. She scored a crucial basket vs. Lowell. Jocelyn Slattery’s tough on-the-ball defense resulted in several steals at half court throughout the week, she also netted 4 points during the close game against Tyngsboro. In addition to her scrappy defense, Allison Fedoce has solidified herself as a top contributor on the offensive end, netting 8 points during the tournament.
