5th Grade Travel Team Takes Down Defending Champs

Tewksbury Girls 5th Grade Travel Team (5 Red) started the 2023-24 season with a commanding win over the defending league champ, Salem, NH 31-20. The girls in red came out firing on all cylinders taking a 12-4 lead after the 1st quarter and never looked back. The team saw outstanding rebounding efforts across the board, especially from Sofia Lyons, Karina Sheehan and Natalie Condon. Condon also dropped in two points and played well defensively. Sawyer Giampa and Jocelyn Slattery were the game’s defensive standouts, tasked with guarding Salem’s star player. Giampa and Slattery were also big contributors on the offensive end with Sawyer scoring 6 timely second-half points and Jocelyn delivering a handful of assists.

Leading the scoring attack for Tewksbury was sharp shooting point guard, Sydney Schofield, on a mix of slashing drives and pull up jumpers; and monster game inside the paint by Sofia Lyons. Both players were a force to be reckoned with and dropped in 10 points.

Allison Fedoce was a defensive leader, she could be found communicating on screens and diving to the floor for any loose ball; she also chipped in a key bucket early in the game to get Tewksbury rolling. Bria Laidlaw picked up right where she left off last season, elevating the intensity of play every time she stepped out on the floor and pushing the tempo of the game just outside of Salem’s comfort zone. The versatile Shaun Stevenson contributed with a key basket and played great defensively.

Tewksbury Guard, Addison Obie, was awarded player of the game for her relentless efforts pushing the ball up the floor and finding open teammates.
