Looking to give back to the community? The Senior Center welcomes volunteers
The Tewksbury Council on Aging held its monthly meeting on Tuesday, March, 21at the Senior Center.
Lynn Murphy called the meeting to order at 2 p.m. The minutes of Feb 21, 2023 were approved by the board. Barring any unforeseen expenditures, the remaining three months of the fiscal year budget look good, according to Treasurer Arthur Costa.
The Director’s report was read by the Chair:
A third van driver has been hired, and this has expanded the transportation availability for errands and appointments in and around town. The cost for these trips is $2 each way, and rides are available Monday through Thursday. Fridays are for Market Basket ONLY. Based on your home address, you will be shopping at Oakdale or Stadium Plaza.
Check the calendar in the April newsletter for new educational workshops. “Memory Training” and “Buried In Treasures” will be most interesting to many of us.
The new chairs are in the building and will make their debut when the new tables arrive next month.
The DJ Dance/Lunch is on April 21. Lunch is provided by AgeSpan (formerly known as Elder Services of the Merrimack Valley) and their Traveling Chef. Tickets are $8 for a three-course lunch and lots of dancing. The board recommends you sign up early as this event sells out quickly.
The board continues to update policies and procedures necessary for the operation of the center.
The next meeting will be held April 18, 2023.
On a personal note, the Tewksbury Senior Center is a busy little place. There are only five full-time employees to oversee all the comings and goings each day. It’s the volunteers and Friends of the Elderly who keep it up and running. Setting up for the DJ dance, answering questions at the front desk, directing people to the many activities, coordinating the intake of the Boutique, acting as salesperson in the Gift Shop and much, much more.
If you would like to be a part of this wonderful experience, please call the center and become a VOLUNTEER.
