Toiletries Drive Is Ongoing Through January

Will benefit local women, children; cash donations also accepted

The Tewksbury Democratic Town Committee is sponsoring a toiletries drive to benefit women and children residing in a local shelter. Both full-size and travel items are appreciated.

A donation bin is located at the Library, next to the honor carts. TDTC members will collect and drop off toiletries continually through January 31. The group is also accepting monetary contributions through its ActBlue account, with all donations between now and the end of the month going direct to the shelter.

So far, response has been overwhelming, says TDTC Chair Cathy Dwyer, who showed off a trunk packed with just a portion of the items collected.

“I’m impressed and thankful that residents took time to donate this holiday season,” said Dwyer.

Besides the usual feminine products, shampoos and deodorant, the shelter is seeking nail polish and other items for “spa days” for guests. Character shampoos and band-aids are appreciated by younger residents.

Dwyer says those who want to learn more can email the committee or drop in to its next meeting, which will be on Jan. 21 at 10 a.m. at Town Hall.
