In a release, New Hampshire State Police announced that longtime Tewksbury resident David Penney, Sr., 58, was in a fatal motorcycle accident Saturday afternoon.
At approximately 3:45 p.m., troopers along with officers from the North Hampton Police Department and medical personnel from the North Hampton Fire Department responded to the report of a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Woodland Road in North Hampton.
Upon arrival, it was determined that a 2015 Black BMW entered the intersection, causing a collision with a 2020 Harley Davidson motorcycle. The operator of the BMW was identified as Jennifer McCoy, 38, of Boston.
McCoy, her juvenile passenger and Penney, the operator of the motorcycle, were taken to Portsmouth Regional Hospital where Penney was pronounced deceased as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.
McCoy and her juvenile passenger did not sustain any injuries. McCoy was subsequently charged with driving under the influence and is scheduled to be arraigned in Rockingham County Superior Court.
Penney was an Eagle Scout, member of the BSA’s Pennacook Lodge, father of Lodge Treasurer David Penney Jr. and a longtime member of the Tewksbury community and Scouting family. The community is invited to gather at a Memorial Candlelight Vigil Service tonight, June 27, at 8 p.m. at St. William’s Parish Center.
Scouts and Scouters are encouraged to wear their Class A uniforms and OA sashes.
Cards, gifts and donations are being accepted by Troop 49 for the Penney family.
