What To Know In Tewksbury the Week of Feb. 20

Did you know that the Fruitlands Museum is open during the winter? The Harvard, Mass., museum spreads over 210 acres and has both indoor and outdoor winter programs. Advance purchase of passes is encouraged.

There are a number of vacation week kids and teen programs at the Library, including crafts and a movie. Check out the full TPL schedule here.

February is Love Your Library month, and the Friends of the Tewksbury Library are holding an online fundraiser. Check out coffee, hot chocolate and treats from Java Joe here. All proceeds fund programming at the Library. The Friends are also welcoming new members.

From our Wilmington Apple sister site: Be careful if you’re driving across the North Wilmington commuter rail crossing tracks, where a woman was killed last month. Early on Friday morning as a commuter train was passing over the crossing at Middlesex Ave., the crossing arms failed to activate in a timely manner that would provide pedestrian or motor vehicle traffic adequate time to respond. Get Organized In 2022

Discover a new approach on how to think about all the stuff you own that will put you on the path to an organized home and life. Organizational resources will also be shared. Led by Jenna Elliott, a 17-year professional organizer and founder of “The Naked Flower: Professional Organizers.” Prior to starting “The Naked Flower,” Jenna was a master floral designer and project manager for a fortune 500 company. 

School Committee

The School Committee will enter executive session a1 11:00 a.m. then reconvene at 11:30 to discuss three open meeting law violation complaints and provide an update on the search for a new superintendent. AGENDA

Teen Movie: Shang-Chi & the Legend of the Ten Rings (Grades 6-12)

Join us for pre-packaged snacks and a movie! This month we are watching Shang-Chi & the Legend of the Ten Rings. The film is rated PG-13 and the run time is 2 hours and 12 minutes. Description: “Martial-arts master Shang-Chi confronts the past he thought he left behind when he’s drawn into the web of the mysterious Ten Rings organization.”

Fundraiser: Dine-Out at Kyoto to benefit TMHS DECA
When: Wed., February 23, all evening
Where: Kyoto

Wednesday, February 23, Kyoto will host a dine-out in support of TMHS DECA students attending the DECA State Conference in Boston. Please mention DECA when paying. DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe.

Fundraiser: Melissa Braga for Board of Health

Donations will be accepted. Checks can be made out to: Committee to Elect Melissa Braga. The candidate will also answer questions and address why she is running for the Tewksbury Board of Health. Appetizers and cash bar.

Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee

Join Professor Laura E. Nym Mayhall for a talk on Queen Elizabeth II’s legacy in light of her 70 years on the throne. An Associate Professor of History at the Catholic University of America, Dr. Mayhall is the author of The Militant Suffrage Movement: Citizenship and Resistance in Britain, 1860-1930, and co-editor of Women’s Suffrage in the British Empire: Citizenship, Nation and Race.

Shawsheen Tech Update

The Shawsheen Tech superintendent will hold an open meeting to discuss the school’s current budget and the assessments that will be levied against each member town. The assembled reps will also decide who will represent their communities in collective bargaining. AGENDA

Are you interested in helping with Tewksbury’s 2022 Fall Festival? The Public Events and Celebrations Committee will hold a brainstorming session on Thursday.

Film Screening: The French Dispatch
When: Friday, Feb. 18, doors open at 1:15 p.m.
Where: Senior Center, registration required

Enjoy a screening of The French Dispatch, a Wes Anderson comedic drama starring Benicio Del Toro, Adrien Brody and Tilda Swinton. A love letter to journalists set in an outpost of an American newspaper in a fictional twentieth century French city that brings to life a collection of stories published in “The French Dispatch Magazine.” R. 107 minutes. 

Registration required. Limited to 20 seats. No candy & water will be served for the time being. Co-sponsored by the Friends of the Tewksbury Public Library and Tewksbury Lions Club.

Lorna is a U.S. Army veteran and 25-year resident of Tewksbury who has written for organizations ranging from the DIA to InformationWeek to a free weekly in New London that sent her to interview the pastry chef at Foxwoods.
