The new date and time to have your tree out by the curb is no later than 7:00 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 24.
How to Prepare: Christmas trees have to be tinsel and ornament free. Do not use plastic bags – they will not be picked up. If your tree is missed, you can call Republic Services at 800-442-9006.
Don’t like the idea of disposing of your tree that way? Some Massachusetts farms are asking residents to drop trees off as food for animals. The Carl E. Dahl House in Gardner is just one location seeking trees to feed goats.
Unity Farm provided info on what trees are safe: “If you purchase a cut evergreen tree from a source that is NOT a “big box store” since they spray with fire retardants and toxic preservatives then you can donate your used Christmas Tree to the goats and cows at Unity Farm Sanctuary!”
The farm says “trees from almost all small local tree sales stands will be safe.”
