Take a stroll by the TPL to see the community garden and the newly planted trees and shrubs, added in celebration of this year’s Arbor Day!
Tewksbury celebrated Arbor Day on Friday April 25th at the Tewksbury Public Library by adding 2 native plantings, a flowering dogwood tree and sweet pepperbush shrubs, to last year’s Arbor Day tulip and black gum trees. The plan is to eventually develop a small showcase arboretum of native trees and shrubs behind the library near the performance stage and organic garden.
Susan Young opened the ceremony by talking about the power of trees. Pamela Meroski supplied information about the newest additions to the library arbor collection, and Library Director Diane Giarrusso presented an analogy about how libraries support growth, likening a library to a garden. Associate Director Nicole Goolishian provided a map of the plantings.
This is the 3rd year that Tewksbury has earned Tree City status from the Arbor Day Foundation by officially recognizing Arbor Day and planting trees to support the environment. A Tree City flag is on display in the main conference room at Town Hall.
