BOSTON, MA – Friday, February 28, 2025 – State Representative Tram T. Nguyen (D-Andover) has been appointed Chair of the House Committee on Climate Action and Sustainability, formerly known as the House Committee on Global Warming and Climate Change. She is the first Asian American woman in Massachusetts history to serve as a House Chair.

“I am deeply honored to serve the Commonwealth in my new role as Chair of the House Committee on Climate Action and Sustainability,” said Rep. Nguyen. “Massachusetts has been a national leader in responding to climate change, and I look forward to working with Vice Chair Michelle Ciccolo and committee members to build on our state’s recent climate wins and ensure a sustainable and resilient future for generations to come.”

The House Committee on Climate Action and Sustainability is tasked with considering matters related to the Commonwealth’s climate policy, including but not limited to greenhouse gas emissions, the climate impacts of renewable energy development, and climate change adaptation and mitigation. The committee also serves in an advisory capacity to other committees that consider legislation with significant climate impacts, such as environment and natural resources, agriculture, transportation, energy, housing, economic development, and emerging technologies.

Nguyen’s appointment marks another historic achievement in her career. In 2018, she became the first Vietnamese American elected to the Massachusetts House of Representatives. Reflecting on her journey, Nguyen added, “I am reminded every day of the trailblazing path Asian Americans have paved. I remain firmly committed to this responsibility entrusted to me and look forward to working with my colleagues to strengthen our Commonwealth. I’m grateful to Speaker Mariano for continuing to provide me with opportunities to learn and grow and for his confidence in my leadership experience and abilities.”
