10+ Things Happening This Week In Tewksbury

Town boards and committees are busy this week. If you’re considering running for one of 11 open seats, check out a meeting to get a feel for what’s going on. 

The Center Elementary School Parent Advisory Council recently kicked off its second annual Valentines for Veterans drive. The CES PAC, in conjunction with VFW Post and Auxiliary 8164, is collecting Valentine’s Day cards for veterans residing at the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford. Community members are invited to participate by making cards and dropping them off at the school by Feb. 1. CES students will also be making Valentines at home or in class. Monday, Jan. 8

Wellness Workshop
When: 10 a.m.
Where: Senior Center

A myriad of circumstances may cause older individuals to be uprooted from their familiar surroundings. When this occurs and one must move or be transferred, the experience may be stressful. Perhaps just the worry of this occurring to you at some point is weighing on you. Join our workshop where you will have the opportunity to discuss your feelings and/or experience and perhaps learn some ps and tricks to make the transition a bit smoother.

Job Search Help: Make a Plan
When: 2 – 3 p.m.

Start the year right —  plan your job search in a fun way. Led by Ed Lawrence, the founder and principal of Getstart-ed, through which he offers practical job-search advice, résumé-writing services, and skills assessments to help people gain meaningful employment or transition to a new career.  Sponsored by the Friends of the Library through a generous grant from the Tewksbury Elks.

Consignment Boutique Intake
When: 2 – 5 p.m.
Where: Senior Center

All residents are invited to bring in like-new clothes, jewelry, home décor and decorations. Volunteers will help with pricing your items. Consignment sellers get 50% of the marked price when the item is sold, with the balance going to the Senior Center. If an item hasn’t sold in 60 days, the item becomes the property of the Senior Center, the price will be marked down and the Center receives all proceeds. After 30 additional days, marked-down items are donated to local charities. Learn more.

Housing Authority
When: 4 p.m.
Where: Saunders Circle Community Building

At its first meeting of 2024, the Housing Authority will review vacancies and the annual report. Agenda

Beautification Committee
When: 6:30 p.m.
Where: Town Hall

The Beautification Committee will review the town’s switchbox art and annual Tree Walk and discuss the Spring Cleanup scheduled for May 4. Agenda

Planning Board
When: 7 p.m.

The Planning Board is scheduled to hear updates on the MacLellan Oil apartments, Holt & Bugbee and East St. self-storage projects. Agenda

In Person Living History: Frances Perkins

Learn about the often unpredictable personal and professional missteps, scandals and hard-won triumphs that characterize Perkins’ years as the first female cabinet secretary and beyond. Select Board

After exiting executive session, which begins at 6:30, the Select Board will consider a victualler license for Brelundi, the Italian takeaway store set to open at the former Mirabella location. The board will also officially set the date for May Town Meeting and renew the town’s Tree City proclamation, among other matters. Agenda

Conservation Commission

The ConCom is scheduled to hear from Civil Design Consultants on behalf of Tewksbury Dental and MacLellan Oil, among other items. Agenda

eBay 101 — The Basics of Buying & Selling on eBay

Book Donation Friends of the Library
When: 9:30 a.m. – noon
Where: Library

The Friends welcome your donations of books in good condition, especially newer books and children/teen books. While the donor is present, books will be evaluated by the Friends and any that are not suitable for sale will be returned to the donor.
