Additional Retail Marijuana Location Proposal for South Tewksbury

Today a notice appeared in the Lowell Sun informing the community of a meeting to discuss a second proposed retail marijuana shop, this one at the former Maverick’s, at 2212 Main St.

One sticking point: The business owes the town some money. When the restaurant closed in 2019, the owner, March & Main Realty Trust, Richard Proctor, trustee, was delinquent in taxes in the amount of $42,542.21, according to the Crier.

That bill has risen to $64,699 for real estate taxes, $1,375 for personal property tax and $4,210 for water.

The new LLC, Harbor Grace, was established last month and lists Patrick Nichols as manager, with an address of 170 Main St. Nichols, a Tewksbury resident, spoke at Town Meeting on Monday, asking for clarification on the licensing process.

“I guess the issue is, just for transparency, just because it seems like some people kind of have like an inside track and some people don’t,” said Nichols. “Can we like have a process that makes sense rather than just be first serve first come first served?”

Assistant Town Manager Steve Sadwick pointed out that the application process goes through the Select Board.

“People have been aware that this is coming all along,” said Sadwick. “Some people have followed the process very closely. Others have contacted the office within the last week or two. So, there is no process yet. It just became a law.”

Sadwick said everyone now starts with “a clean slate.”

The other proposed location, at Sal’s, will be the subject of a second community meeting on Oct. 21 at TJ Callahan’s at 7:10 p.m.

Here is the notice that ran in the Sun.

Notice is hearby given that Harbour Grace LLC will host a community outreach meeting for a proposed retail marijuana establishment on Friday, October 21, 2022 at 5:00 p.m. at the Tewksbury/Wilmington Elks Lodge, 777 South Street, Tewksbury, MA 01876.

The meeting will include discussion regarding a proposal to site an Adult-Use Marijuana Retailer at 2212 Main Street, Tewksbury, MA 01876. There will be an opportunity for the public to ask questions. The meeting will cover, at a minimum, the following topics: the proposed location and the type of the marijuana establishment; the building being moved into and compliance with security requirements as outlined by 935 CMR 500 et seq. (the Massachusetts Adult-Use Marijuana Regulations); steps taken to prevent the diversion of marijuana to minors; plan to positively impact the local community; and information demonstrating how the location will not constitute a nuisance to the community.

Once again as always most people that speak at any town meeting are quoted like Patrick Nichols in this case. I commented on Article 8 (much before his question) but never quoted and asked a question in the case of an owner (not named that has at lease 15 properties in town) of the back taxes owed by Mavericks if considered for this type of business.

Hi George, Patrick is quoted because he is listed as the manager of the group that scheduled the public meeting. Quite a few citizens had interesting and relevant comments, which is why the link to the full video is listed. Hopefully everyone who could not make the meeting will be able to watch.
