Neighbor News: Chipotle Looking to Take Over Old Rite Aid Site

Here’s what’s going on in Wilmington, courtesy of the Wilmington Apple.

Chipotle coming to town: A developer is currently seeking permission from the Wilmington Planning Board to demolish the former Rite Aid building, located at 208 Main Street, and build an approximately 6,900 square foot commercial building with two retail spaces and a limited service restaurant. Valerie Gingrich, Wilmington’s Director of Planning & Conservation, has confirmed that the proposed limited service restaurant is Chipotle, the popular fast casual restaurant specializing in burritos, burrito bowls, and tacos that are made in front of the customer. The tenants for the two retail spaces are not yet known to Gingrich or the Planning Board. The former Rite Aid building has been vacant since June 2018. READ MORE

Classrooms shuffle: Wilmington is considering moving its 5th grade to the middle school, 8th grade to the high school and purchasing as many as 16 modular classrooms. Under the best case scenario, town officials acknowledge a new Wildwood Early Childhood Center will not be built for another 5 to 7 years. READ MORE

Cornhole fans can play Sunday: The Wilmington Farmers Market is hosting a benefit cornhole tournament on Sunday, September 25, 2022 on the Swain Green: 24 teams! Double elimination brackets! Cash prizes for top 3 teams! The tournament is open for online pre-registration (as space allows), and day of team and individual player registration. There is enough space for up to 24 teams. This is a blind draw, double-elimination (you have to lose twice to be eliminated) tournament, following the rules of the American Cornhole Association. READ MORE
