5 Short Takes for August 6: Water Shutdown, Robotics Team Seeks Mentors, Crafter Opportunity

The Tewksbury Applefest Craft Fair, held at Tewksbury Memorial High School on Sat., Oct. 30, is looking for a few more vendors to showcase their products this year. If you make and sell truly handmade items, the committee invites you to complete an application and show us your craft.

The Friends of the Tewksbury Public Library and the Tewksbury Garden Club are jointly holding a fall bulb fundraiser. You can order right from the FOTPL website or download an order form and mail to the Garden Club. More info on available bulbs is on the website. The deadline to order is Sunday, Sept. 12. Bulbs can be picked up at the last community market on Thursday, Sept. 30, unless there are shipping delays from Holland, in which case pick up will be in the library meeting room mid October. Plenty of time for planting your bulbs for an incredible spring display! Prices range from $13 to $21 for bulb sets. Thanks to business sponsor Trader Joe’s.

The Tewksbury Robotics Team is looking for opportunities to increase visibility. The team recently competed at WPI and is actively trying to attend town events to recruit both mentors (coaches) and team members. The kids build everything from scratch, building technical skills like machining, 3D printing, laser cutting, wiring and coding, as well as soft skills like project management, PR and finance. Got an opportunity or want to get involved? Contact the team via email at frcteam1474@gmail.com or check out their Facebook page.

Pleasant St. area residents take note! Contractors will shut down water from about 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wed. August 11 as part of the new elementary school construction project. Tewksbury Police report that yesterday morning, between the hours of 1:30 a.m. and 2:00 a.m. in the Navillus and Kennedy Rd. area, one vehicle was stolen and several more were broken into. TPD asks that anyone who may have captured footage of these activities please contact Ofc. Peter Murray at pmurray@tewksbury-ma.gov.
